Walking in the neat and tidy streets in Hautvillers in Champagne region France, we spotted these wrought-iron signposts (“enseignes”) perched outside houses - these appeared like little metal storytellers over the streets. These wrought-iron signs once told who lived here and what they did - winegrower, artisan, or house name, by an appropriate visual depiction.
Hautvillers still wears this history on its walls. #hautvillers #hautvillerschampagne
