His Majesty King Charles III honoured Mawlana Hazar Imam with a dinner at Windsor Castle this evening, marking the first anniversary of his ascension to the Ismaili Imamat. Mawlana Hazar Imam was accompanied by members of his family on this significant occasion.

Earlier in the day, Mawlana Hazar Imam and UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper signed a Memorandum of Understanding, reaffirming and strengthening more than four decades of partnership between the Ismaili Imamat and the United Kingdom. Since 1973, institutions of the Ismaili Imamat have worked closely with UK agencies on development initiatives across Africa, South and Central Asia, and the Middle East.

In 2018, King Charles—then Prince of Wales—formally opened the Aga Khan Centre in London, a landmark institution dedicated to education, knowledge, cultural exchange, and deeper understanding of Muslim civilisations. Today, the Centre welcomes nearly 50,000 visitors annually, hosting events and seminars, including collaborations with The King’s Trust and The King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts.

The Aga Khan Centre houses The Institute of Ismaili Studies, the Aga Khan University’s Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations, and the Aga Khan Foundation (UK). Together, these institutions work to foster mutual understanding of Muslim cultures and to improve the quality of life in developing societies.

Mawlana Hazar Imam serves as the Global Founding Patron of The King’s Trust, supporting initiatives that empower young people to learn, earn, and thrive, particularly in regions where the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) has a long-standing presence. As a Founding Partner of the Earthshot Prize, AKDN also collaborates with The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales in advancing global environmental protection and restoration.
For more than six decades, the Jamat has worked closely with Royal institutions to promote peace, pluralism, and social progress across the UK and the Commonwealth—a partnership rooted in shared values and a long-term vision for humanity.
