You never know what's gonna happen next minute, next day, or further away, be grateful for what you have, work hard for what you can achieve, make laughs at every little thing, follow your fate love and hate, never fail to seize the day. :-)
One thing Dale said about me was right, pretty soon I would have plants growing out of our attic.
I once told Dale to save money for his dreaming vacation, 1-2 months away from the house would be ideal, so I could turn our house into Jumanji. I guess I just could not wait that long.
The fries I promised the kids last weekend finally got made yesterday — my daughter was so happy she nearly screamed.
The luncheon meat was so salty it made me question life itself, yet it paired perfectly with the mashed potatoes. Add some sautéed chopped green onions and chili peppers, and it became a feast for the eyes and the taste buds.
5 hours working in the kitchen on Sunday! When you are tired of hearing your friends to tell you the fried rice and egg rolls they bought from American Chinese restaurant are delicious. I have better ideas to combine flavor and nutrition.
There’s a saying in Chinese: “When parents truly love their children, they plan for their future with long-term vision.” Because I love my kids deeply, I try to give them the healthiest food while they are still young, so their bodies will have a strong foundation. Even if, when they grow up, their diet becomes less ideal, at least they’ll have that solid base.
Of course, this isn’t always easy. Kids have their own tastes, family members hold different views, and sometimes I’m questioned if I’m being “too strict.” But I don’t believe I really am strict — as long as my kids eat their main meals, they enjoy daily treats like ice cream bites, chips, or other snacks. At birthdays, family gatherings, or with friends, they can have more sweets. They also get to pick dinners — healthy or not — and I simply balance it with veggies and protein.
To me, this isn’t strictness, it’s love with foresight.
The Diamond Sutra teaches that the past mind is gone, the future mind has not yet come, and the present mind cannot be grasped — so the best way to approach time is to live fully in the present moment.
I don’t oppose anyone choosing their own way of life, but choices should not come at the expense of other people’s rights. The majority also have the right to privacy, to fair competition, and to guide their children’s education — these are basic rights. Demanding unconditional acceptance while refusing to acknowledge legitimate concerns is not respect, it is privilege. True respect has to be mutual, not one-sided. If a group insists only on its own choices while disregarding or even undermining the rights of the majority, that is what real selfishness looks like.
I believe that life lies in movement. A life in constant motion can face more challenges, have more energy to embrace the present, and hold greater confidence in the future. Even more than health insurance, I believe in staying healthy and caring for one’s body. I’ve seen too many people retire with no worries about food, clothing, or time, only to lose their health and spend the rest of their lives in pain and anxiety. The earlier we cultivate self-discipline, the more we can experience the boundlessness of life and the freedom of living. If everyone took the best possible care of their body, doctors wouldn’t be nearly as busy. Too often, people fall ill and pin their hopes on doctors, unwilling to change their lifestyle. They expect medication or surgery to restore their health, but this treats only the symptoms, not the root cause, and cannot truly achieve lasting well-being.
