Unfortunately, the weather was too bad to do the Tongariro Crossing at the end of October and Grace and I had to do the Tama Lakes Track instead (www.alltrails.com/trail/new-zealand/manawatu-wanga…. This was a moderate 17.5km track from Whakapapa. The weather closed in just short of halfway, and we landed up hiking in strong winds and driving rain. The video is still in production but look out for it, as it may be quite interesting. We will reschedule the Tongariro Crossing in the next month or two, maybe over New Years.

Grace and I have been preparing for the Tongariro Crossing at the end of October. The hike is about 24km, so some preparation is the smart thing to do. We have been extending our hikes on the weekends steadily from the usual 10km to 12km on Karamatura 3 weeks ago, 14km on Whatipu to Pararaha Valley 2 weeks ago and 16km on the Pinnacles last weekend. This coming weekend is a rest, and we will only do a 10km hike. The weekend after we intend to do Karamatura, Donald McLean, Puriri Ridge and Omanawanui tracks combined there and back for a total of 20km.
