Here’s a ring neck snake I found.
You can’t see it right now, but under the snake is a bright red or orange belly to warn predators: “ hey, you! Get off my lawn, I have a shot gun, and I ain’t afraid to use it”. Except that he doesn’t have one ( and they don’t bite).
