🔍 A new study published in npj Aging reveals a significant connection between our diet and the rate at which our brains age. 🧠
Researchers found that a Mediterranean-style diet, rich in fish, olive oil, fruits, veggies, and whole grains, may help keep our brains sharp as we age. By analysing blood samples of individuals aged 65-75, they identified key nutrients—fatty acids, antioxidants, carotenoids, and choline— associated with delayed brain ageing. This comprehensive study highlights the link between nutrient biomarkers, brain structure, function, and cognitive performance.🐟

🚨 Daily fish oil supplements, often taken for heart health, may actually increase the risk of first-time stroke and atrial fibrillation (AFib) in people without existing heart issues, a new study in BMJ Medicine reveals.
This comprehensive analysis of over 415,000 UK Biobank participants found a 13% higher risk of AFib and a 5% higher risk of stroke among regular users. Cardiologist Dr. Andrew Freeman highlights concerns over the purity and consistency of over-the-counter fish oil. 🐟
💊While regular use of fish oil supplements might increase the risk of AFib and stroke in the general population, they could be beneficial for reducing disease progression from AFib to major adverse cardiovascular events and death.
🤔 Is it time to rethink our supplement choices?

A recent study from Lund University shows that up to 40% of cancer cases could be prevented by maintaining a healthy weight. The study identified a potential link between 15 cancer types in men and 16 in women and obesity, including cancers of the head and neck, gastrointestinal tract, malignant melanoma, genital organs, endocrine organs, connective tissue, and haematological malignancies. While the link between BMI and potential obesity-related cancer risk is slightly weaker than established obesity-related cancers in men, it showed comparable results in women.
Though the results are alarming, maintaining a normal weight by adopting a healthy lifestyle can help you significantly reduce the risk of developing obesity-related cancer.
