Today is our Kalandar ✨❄️

According to the Gregorian calendar, Kalandar falls on January 14. In the Rumi calendar, it marks the first day of the year. That’s why the night of January 13 is known as Kalandar Night in Trabzon and its surrounding regions.

On this night, locals welcome the new year with theatrical plays and horon dances unique to the region. Young people gather, go from house to house, and dance horon to the sound of the kemençe 🎻🕺

One of the most symbolic figures of Kalandar is Karakoncolos 👹
According to belief, Karakoncolos wanders the streets during the first days of winter, asking:
“Where are you coming from? Where are you going? What is your name?”
The answers must always include the word “Kara” (black) ⚫️

In Trabzon, young people paint their faces with black coal, wear sheepskins, and join the celebrations as Karakoncolos. Singing traditional verses, they throw bags onto neighbors’ doors. These bags are pulled inside and filled with food prepared in advance a symbol of sharing and abundance 🥖🌽

🎶 Kalandaris Kulandaris
Give, Allah, give
Let every corner be filled
Fill the cup, light the chimney
This is Kalandar Night not just a feast

After the celebrations, on New Year’s Day, village youth bake an extremely salty Kalandar bread using ingredients collected from each house. It is believed that those who eat this bread will see the person they will marry in their dreams ✨

Kalandar is also celebrated across the Balkans in regions such as Gagauzia, Romania, Greece, Ukraine, and Poland under names like Koleda, Kolada or Kolenda 🌍

Today is our Kalandar. 🙏🏻🎉
May our homes be filled with warmth, our streets with joy,
and may the new year bring abundance, hope, and beautiful beginnings 🤍

✨ Copenhagen in winter just hits different
Colorful façades mirroring on the water, bicycles everywhere, cinnamon in the air and Christmas markets lighting up the city…
Copenhagen is not just a place it is a feeling.

This is the heart of the Danish concept of hygge a season of warmth, coziness, soft lights, and simple pleasures.
Especially in December, the city turns into a gentle winter fairytale.

From Nyhavn to Kongens Nytorv, Christmas markets invite you into a world of handmade crafts, mulled wine (gløgg), Danish pastries and glowing lanterns that make the streets feel alive.
It’s not loud energy it’s quiet magic. ✨

So what can you do here?
• stroll Nyhavn at sunset
• taste gløgg in the Christmas markets
• try Danish æbleskiver (little winter pancakes)
• visit Tivoli Gardens the Christmas lights are unreal
• explore small local design shops,Copenhagen has one of the best design cultures in Europe

would you visit Copenhagen in December? 🇩🇰

📍 Paris: Rooftop Recommendation (Galeries Lafayette)

When you visit Paris, don’t limit yourself to walking the streets. One of the best ways to really understand this city is to look at it from above.

These photos are taken from one of my favorite viewpoints 👇

Rooftop to try in Paris:
Galeries Lafayette Terrace Floor

– free access
– panoramic view over the city
– clear Eiffel Tower view
– Opera Garnier and Haussmann architecture look amazing from here
– sunset light is perfect for photos

This spot is especially great if it’s your first time in Paris.
It’s “touristy” but in the best way easy to reach, worth the view.

✨ quick tips:
• go early in the morning or during golden hour for calmer moments
• winter can be windy warm jacket recommended
• the glass barrier edge gives the best photo angle

If you’re planning a rooftop moment in Paris, add this to your list. It easily became one of my favorite perspectives in the city.

Copenhagen is entering its Christmas season again and this area becomes pure magic 🎄✨
I stayed at Ascot Hotel, just behind Tivoli Gardens. If you want to experience Christmas markets instead of just “seeing” them this location is gold.

From this exact street you can walk to:
• Tivoli’s Christmas Market (2–3 minutes)
• Strøget Europe’s longest pedestrian shopping street
• cosy cafés with Scandinavian desserts
• hot gløgg stalls (Danish mulled wine)
• local design shops hidden in side streets

Here, winter doesn’t feel cold it feels festive.

This is the kind of December trip where you: taste almond pastries try warm cinnamon drinks buy small hand made Danish ornaments and get lost (on purpose) in warm yellow lights.

If you’re planning Christmas markets in Copenhagen, save this spot because from Ascot Hotel you don’t need transport…the magic literally starts right outside the door. @ascot_hotel_copenhagen

In temples across Japan, you’ll find rows of small stone figures dressed in red caps and bibs, surrounded by colorful pinwheels gently spinning in the wind.

These are Jizō Bosatsu, the compassionate guardian deities of children, travelers, and the souls of those who passed away too soon especially unborn or lost infants.

In Buddhist belief, Jizō stands at the crossroads between life and the afterlife, guiding young souls safely across the river that separates this world from the next.

Parents come to these temples to pray, to grieve, and to decorate the statues with love offering clothes, flowers, and pinwheels so that their children may never feel cold, alone, or forgotten.

The red garments symbolize protection and rebirth, while the spinning pinwheels represent the gentle continuation of life movement, memory, and hope carried by the wind.

Standing here, surrounded by hundreds of these tender faces, you don’t feel sorrow you feel peace.
A quiet understanding that love, in any form, never truly ends. 🌸
