Clarification for Geography Optional Students
Dear students,
I would like to clarify an important conceptual point related to stunting and wasting, which are frequently asked in UPSC Geography Optional.
Correct definitions (WHO):
• Stunting means low height-for-age and reflects chronic undernutrition.
• Wasting means low weight-for-height and reflects acute undernutrition.
In a few earlier Food Security lectures, these two terms were inadvertently interchanged.
The correct explanation has been provided in Food Security – Part 5, and students are advised to follow that definition for examination purposes.
