Remembering Air Chief Marshal Swaroop Krishna Kaul (1935-2025)
All personnel of the Indian Air Force express heartfelt condolences on the passing of Air Chief Marshal Swaroop Krishna Kaul at the age of 89.
Born on 20 December 1935, he joined the National Defence Academy in 1951 and was commissioned into the IAF in December 1954 with the 63rd Pilot Course. Beginning his career on Vampires, he later transitioned to Mystères and became a flying instructor.
During the 1965 War, he flew multiple combat sorties, undertaking daring ground-attack missions. As Commanding Officer of No. 37 Squadron, he led Hunter operations with distinction and was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra (MVC) for his exceptional leadership.
He went on to serve as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) of both Central and Western Air Commands. On 31 July 1993, he was appointed Chief of the Air Staff and later assumed the role of Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee in November 1994. After an illustrious 42-year career, he retired on 31 December 1995.
Air Chief Marshal Kaul leaves behind a towering legacy of service, courage, and leadership. The Indian Air Force stands in gratitude for his contribution to the nation.
