Elephants have a long lifespan, usually 60–70 years in the wild. They are the largest land animals, with adults weighing about 2,700–6,000 kg, depending on the species and sex. The gestation period is the longest of any land mammal, lasting around 22 months, and a single calf is normally born. Elephants are herbivores, feeding on grass, leaves, bark, roots, fruits, and crops, and they spend many hours each day foraging for food.
