Remembering Capt Mandeep Singh🇮🇳 Captain Mandeep Singh hailed from Jalandhar in Punjab and was born on May 19, 1969, to Shri Kanwaljit Singh and Smt Ravinder Kaur.
Capt Mandeep had a passion for army life since his younger days and always wanted to join the Armed Forces.
Capt Mandeep cleared the Combined Defence Services Exam and joined the Army in 1991. He was commissioned into the Corps of Air Defence Artillery which was re-designated as the Corps of Army Air Defence with effect from 18 Apr 2005. Capt Mandeep joined 49 Air Defence Regiment and served in various places, before being deputed to Rashtriya Rifles in 1998. During the Kargil conflict, Captain Mandeep Singh was attached with the 4 Rashtriya Rifles deployed in J & K area for counter insurgency operations.
Kupwara Attack: 06 Aug 1999 ————————————————————————- Though the Kargil war had ended on 26 July 1999, the situation along the LOC was tense during Aug 1999, and the troops were on alert for any eventualities. Also during that period a substantial number of army personnel were deployed at Anantnag as part of the security cover for Amarnath Yatra. The Kupwara town was left under the CRPF and the militants saw this as an opportune moment to attack the Army camp of 4 RR unit. Thus in a pre-planned move, at around 1:15 am on 06 Aug 1999, the Army camp of 4 RR unit in village Chak Nutnusa in Kupwara district was attacked by a group of heavily armed militants.
Capt Mandeep Singh was Company Commander of 4 Rashtriya Rifles battalion which came under the deadly armed assault on that day. Capt Mandeep and his troops swung into action and counter attacked. Though it was a surprise attack, Capt Mandeep rose to the occasion and led his troops in effective engagement of the militants. However during the heavy exchange of fire Capt Mandeep received a bullet and suffered an injury to left infraclavicular region of his chest. He soon succumbed to his injuries and was martyred. Besides Capt Mandeep Singh three more soldiers from 4 RR Battalion made the supreme sacrifice during the operation. The other martyred soldiers included Naib Risaldar Narender Singh Rana, Naik Mithilesh Pathak and Sowar Sohan Singh Solanki. Known as “Harry” to his friends Capt Mandeep was a spirited and dedicated young officer, who was well regarded by his seniors as well as troops under him. Remembering Rifleman Sunil Jang Mahat🇮🇳 Rfn Sunil Jang Mahat hailed from Darjeeling in West Bengal and was born on 13 November 1978. Son of Smt Beena Mahat and an Army veteran Subedar Nar Narayan Jang Mahat.
Rfn Sunil was fascinated with the Army life and was inclined to join the Armed Forces like his father and grand father. He grew up in a military family, wherein his grandfather, Major Nakul Jang Mahat, (A 1962 Indo-China war veteran) and father, Subedar Nar Narayan Jang, (A 1971 Indo-Pak war veteran) served in the Army and took part in the various wars and operations. His interest in the Army grew along with his age and consequently he joined the Army after completing his school education.
He was recruited into 1/11 GR battalion of 11 Gorkha Rifles Regiment, an infantry Regiment well known for its intrepid soldiers and numerous battle exploits. Rfn Sunil Jang had keen interest in sports during his student days, which continued during his military training period too. After completing his training, he got posted to the unit that was deployed in Palampur in Himachal Pradesh.
During May 1999, as Rfn Sunil Jang’s unit was preparing to move form its field location in Siachen to a peace area in Pune, the situation at the LOC was hotting up with large scale intrusion having been detected in various sectors. As a result, 1/11 GR was inducted into the Batalik sector on 09 May 1999.
Yaldor Operations : 09-15 May 1999 ————————————————————————- Rfn Sunil Jang along with his unit got deployed in Batalik sector on 09 May 1999 and the unit was placed under the command of 70 Infantry Brigade. The area around Batalik was very rugged and had steep ridges offering no place to create a camp. The reports of the patrols confirmed that the enemy had occupied several mountain features and heights around Jubar and Kukarthang ridge-lines.
As a result the Army made an operational plan that envisaged preventing the enemy from coming further and occupying more peaks. Thus it was important to capture the crucial features on the ridge-lines. Under this plan, 1/11 GR battalion was tasked to capture Point 4821 on Kukarthang ridge.
On the morning of 10th May 1999, a platoon of “D” Company of 1/11 GR linked up with the patrol of 3 Punjab which was wedged on the spur of Kukarthang ridge. The Patrol of 3 Punjab was in a precarious situation wherein the enemy was overlooking them from the forward spur of Kukarthang Top and there was an imminent danger of the enemy overrunning the greatly out-numbered patrol.
Rfn Sunil Jang was part of the platoon of 1/11 GR that was launched from Yaldor on the afternoon of 9th May 1999. Rfn Sunil Jang and his comrades braving the hostile enemy fire, eventually merged up with the patrol of 3 Punjab at Kukarthang spur in the early hours on 10th May 1999.
Rfn Sunil Jang was functioning as the Signal operator of the platoon under the command of Lt RS Rawat. By 13th May, the platoon had thrown out the enemy from over one kilometre of the ridge-line, inch by inch. However the logistic column had been unable to reach owing to enemy artillery fire on the 11 th and 12 th of May.
It had been 5 days since the platoon started the operation and by now the platoon was low on ammunition, batteries, and food. Finally Lt Samiran Roy with ‘B’ Company platoon reached to reinforce the D Platoon on 13th morning. On 15 May another attack was launched by 1/11 GR towards the objective using the available boulders to their tactical advantage.
During the attack, Rfn Sunil Jang was engaging the enemy soldiers with with Lt Roy on his right side. He was engaged in the dual task of proving the radio cover as well as firing at the enemy. However during the heavy exchange of fire, Rfn Sunil Jang got hit by a bullet and fell down. He later succumbed to his injuries and was martyred. Rfn Sunil Jang was a valiant and gritty soldier who laid down his life at the age of 20 years in the line of his duty. 🙏 ———————————IN HINDI—————————— राइफलमैन सुनील जंग महत🇮🇳 को याद करते हुए Rfn सुनील जंग महत पश्चिम बंगाल के दार्जिलिंग के रहने वाले थे और उनका जन्म 13 नवंबर 1978 को हुआ था। वे श्रीमती बीना महत और सेना के अनुभवी सूबेदार नर नारायण जंग महत के पुत्र थे ।
Rfn सुनील सेना के जीवन से रोमांचित थे और अपने पिता और दादा की तरह सशस्त्र बलों में शामिल होने के इच्छुक थे। वह एक सैन्य परिवार में पले-बढ़े, जिसमें उनके दादा, मेजर नकुल जंग महत, (1962 के भारत-चीन युद्ध के दिग्गज) और पिता, सूबेदार नर नारायण जंग, (1971 के भारत-पाक युद्ध के दिग्गज) ने सेना में सेवा की और भाग लिया। विभिन्न युद्धों और अभियानों में। उनकी उम्र के साथ-साथ सेना में उनकी रुचि बढ़ती गई और परिणामस्वरूप वे अपनी स्कूली शिक्षा पूरी करने के बाद सेना में शामिल हो गए।

परिणामस्वरूप सेना ने एक परिचालन योजना बनाई जिसमें दुश्मन को आगे आने और अधिक चोटियों पर कब्जा करने से रोकने की परिकल्पना की गई थी। इस प्रकार रिज-लाइनों पर महत्वपूर्ण विशेषताओं को पकड़ना महत्वपूर्ण था। इस योजना के तहत, 1/11 जीआर बटालियन को कुकरथांग रिज पर प्वाइंट 4821 पर कब्जा करने का काम सौंपा गया था।

Remembering Subedar Bhoop Singh🇮🇳 Subedar Bhoop Singh Gujjar hailed from Kherla village in Dausa district of Rajasthan. And was born on 10 Jun 1971, Sub Bhoop Singh had joined the Army in 1992 at the age of 21 years and was inducted into the Corps of EME. Son of Sri Rajhans Gujjar, a farmer, Sub Bhoop Singh always nursed the idea of joining the Armed Forces since his childhood. After completing his training, he served in numerous Army bases during his service career of over 24 years.
Sub Bhoop Singh’s son Vishvendra also followed in the footsteps of his father and joined the Army. During 2017, Sub Bhoop Singh as well as his son were serving with units deployed in J & K area. Sub Bhoop Singh’s unit was based in Kupwara district along the LOC.
The Kupwara Attack : 27 Apr 2017 ————————————————————————- During 2017, Subedar Bhoop Singh’s unit was based in the Army garrison located at Panzgam in Kupwara district, about 120 km from Srinagar. Kupwara is one of the most frequented infiltration routes used by militants to cross the Line of Control, especially after the snow starts melting. On 27 Apr 2017, three armed militants descended down the wooded mountains and tip-toed towards the Army garrison at Panzgam at 4.30 am.
They hurled grenades and started indiscriminate firing after cutting through two barbed wire fences from the rear side of the camp. When they began cutting the fence, soldiers on duty noticed the suspicious activity and challenged them. The three militants taken by surprise fired at the guards and tried to rush towards the living quarters.
Capt Ayush Yadav from 310 Med Regt was woken up by the deafening sound of gunfire and sensed something ominous. He threw his blanket away , grabbed his AK 47 and rushed out. Capt Ayush Yadav engaged the terrorists and didn’t allow them to proceed towards the living quarters. This provided the crucial time for the quick reaction team to organize themselves and take on the terrorists.
A fierce gun battle ensued thereafter wherein two terrorists were eliminated. However, Sub Bhoop singh and Naik Bhoota Venkata Ramana got severely injured during the exchange of fire and later succumbed to their injuries. Capt Ayush Yadav also succumbed to his injuries and was martyred along with these brave hearts. Sub Bhoop Singh was a valiant and dedicated soldier who laid down his life in the service of the nation. 🙏 ——————————— IN HINDI—————————- सूबेदार भूप सिंह को याद करते हुए🇮🇳 सूबेदार भूप सिंह गुर्जर राजस्थान के दौसा जिले के खेरला गांव के रहने वाले थे। और 10 जून 1971 को पैदा हुए सूबेदार भूप सिंह 1992 में 21 साल की उम्र में सेना में भर्ती हुए थे और उन्हें ईएमई कोर में शामिल किया गया था। वे एक किसान, श्री राजहंस गुर्जर के पुत्र थे | सूबेदार भूप सिंह ने हमेशा बचपन से ही सशस्त्र बलों में शामिल होने के विचार का पालन किया। अपना प्रशिक्षण पूरा करने के बाद, उन्होंने 24 वर्षों से अधिक के अपने सेवा करियर के दौरान कई सैन्य ठिकानों में सेवा की।
सूबेदार भूप सिंह के बेटे विश्वेंद्र ने भी अपने पिता के नक्शेकदम पर चलते हुए सेना में भर्ती हुए। 2017 के दौरान, सूबेदार भूप सिंह और उनका बेटा जम्मू-कश्मीर क्षेत्र में तैनात इकाइयों के साथ काम कर रहे थे। उप भूप सिंह की इकाई एलओसी के साथ कुपवाड़ा जिले में स्थित थी।
कुपवाड़ा हमला: 27 अप्रैल 2017 —————————————————————————- 2017 के दौरान, सूबेदार भूप सिंह की यूनिट श्रीनगर से लगभग 120 किलोमीटर दूर कुपवाड़ा जिले के पंजगाम में स्थित सेना की छावनी में थी। कुपवाड़ा नियंत्रण रेखा को पार करने के लिए उग्रवादियों द्वारा उपयोग किए जाने वाले सबसे अधिक घुसपैठ वाले मार्गों में से एक है, खासकर बर्फ पिघलने के बाद। 27 अप्रैल 2017 को, तीन हथियारबंद आतंकवादी जंगली पहाड़ों से नीचे उतरे और पंजगाम में सुबह 4.30 बजे सेना की छावनी की ओर बढ़े।

310 मेड रेगिट के कैप्टन आयुष यादव गोलियों की गगनभेदी आवाज से जाग गए और उन्हें कुछ अशुभ लगा। उसने अपना कंबल फेंक दिया, अपनी एके 47 उठाई और बाहर निकल गया। कैप्टन आयुष यादव ने आतंकियों से लोहा लिया और उन्हें रिहायशी इलाकों की ओर नहीं बढ़ने दिया। इसने त्वरित प्रतिक्रिया दल को खुद को संगठित करने और आतंकवादियों से निपटने के लिए महत्वपूर्ण समय प्रदान किया।
इसके बाद भीषण गोलीबारी हुई जिसमें दो आतंकवादी मारे गए। हालांकि, गोलीबारी के दौरान सूबेदार भूप सिंह और नाइक भूत वेंकट रमना गंभीर रूप से घायल हो गए और बाद में उन्होंने दम तोड़ दिया। कैप्टन आयुष यादव ने भी दम तोड़ दिया और इन बहादुरों के साथ शहीद हो गए। सूबेदार भूप सिंह एक बहादुर और समर्पित सैनिक थे जिन्होंने राष्ट्र की सेवा में अपना जीवन लगा दिया। 🙏

The other martyred soldiers included Naib Risaldar Narender Singh Rana, Naik Mithilesh Pathak and Sowar Sohan Singh Solanki. Known as “Harry” to his friends Capt Mandeep was a spirited and dedicated young officer, who was well regarded by his seniors as well as troops under him. Capt Mandeep Singh was a gallant and committed soldier, who laid down his life in the service of the nation.

कैप्टन मनदीप को अपने छोटे दिनों से ही सेना के जीवन का शौक था और वह हमेशा सशस्त्र बलों में शामिल होना चाहते थे।

Remembering Rifleman Sunil Jang Mahat🇮🇳
Rfn Sunil Jang Mahat hailed from Darjeeling in West Bengal and was born on 13 November 1978. Son of Smt Beena Mahat and an Army veteran Subedar Nar Narayan Jang Mahat.
Rfn Sunil was fascinated with the Army life and was inclined to join the Armed Forces like his father and grand father. He grew up in a military family, wherein his grandfather, Major Nakul Jang Mahat, (A 1962 Indo-China war veteran) and father, Subedar Nar Narayan Jang, (A 1971 Indo-Pak war veteran) served in the Army and took part in the various wars and operations. His interest in the Army grew along with his age and consequently he joined the Army after completing his school education.
He was recruited into 1/11 GR battalion of 11 Gorkha Rifles Regiment, an infantry Regiment well known for its intrepid soldiers and numerous battle exploits. Rfn Sunil Jang had keen interest in sports during his student days, which continued during his military training period too. After completing his training, he got posted to the unit that was deployed in Palampur in Himachal Pradesh.
During May 1999, as Rfn Sunil Jang’s unit was preparing to move form its field location in Siachen to a peace area in Pune, the situation at the LOC was hotting up with large scale intrusion having been detected in various sectors. As a result, 1/11 GR was inducted into the Batalik sector on 09 May 1999.

Rfn Sunil Jang along with his unit got deployed in Batalik sector on 09 May 1999 and the unit was placed under the command of 70 Infantry Brigade. The area around Batalik was very rugged and had steep ridges offering no place to create a camp. The reports of the patrols confirmed that the enemy had occupied several mountain features and heights around Jubar and Kukarthang ridge-lines.
As a result the Army made an operational plan that envisaged preventing the enemy from coming further and occupying more peaks. Thus it was important to capture the crucial features on the ridge-lines. Under this plan, 1/11 GR battalion was tasked to capture Point 4821 on Kukarthang ridge.
On the morning of 10th May 1999, a platoon of “D” Company of 1/11 GR linked up with the patrol of 3 Punjab which was wedged on the spur of Kukarthang ridge. The Patrol of 3 Punjab was in a precarious situation wherein the enemy was overlooking them from the forward spur of Kukarthang Top and there was an imminent danger of the enemy overrunning the greatly out-numbered patrol.
Rfn Sunil Jang was part of the platoon of 1/11 GR that was launched from Yaldor on the afternoon of 9th May 1999. Rfn Sunil Jang and his comrades braving the hostile enemy fire, eventually merged up with the patrol of 3 Punjab at Kukarthang spur in the early hours on 10th May 1999.
Rfn Sunil Jang was functioning as the Signal operator of the platoon under the command of Lt RS Rawat. By 13th May, the platoon had thrown out the enemy from over one kilometre of the ridge-line, inch by inch. However the logistic column had been unable to reach owing to enemy artillery fire on the 11 th and 12 th of May.
It had been 5 days since the platoon started the operation and by now the platoon was low on ammunition, batteries, and food. Finally Lt Samiran Roy with ‘B’ Company platoon reached to reinforce the D Platoon on 13th morning. On 15 May another attack was launched by 1/11 GR towards the objective using the available boulders to their tactical advantage.
During the attack, Rfn Sunil Jang was engaging the enemy soldiers with with Lt Roy on his right side. He was engaged in the dual task of proving the radio cover as well as firing at the enemy. However during the heavy exchange of fire, Rfn Sunil Jang got hit by a bullet and fell down. He later succumbed to his injuries and was martyred. Rfn Sunil Jang was a valiant and gritty soldier who laid down his life at the age of 20 years in the line of his duty.

Rfn सुनील सेना के जीवन से रोमांचित थे और अपने पिता और दादा की तरह सशस्त्र बलों में शामिल होने के इच्छुक थे। वह एक सैन्य परिवार में पले-बढ़े, जिसमें उनके दादा, मेजर नकुल जंग महत, (1962 के भारत-चीन युद्ध के दिग्गज) और पिता, सूबेदार नर नारायण जंग, (1971 के भारत-पाक युद्ध के दिग्गज) ने सेना में सेवा की और भाग लिया। विभिन्न युद्धों और अभियानों में। उनकी उम्र के साथ-साथ सेना में उनकी रुचि बढ़ती गई और परिणामस्वरूप वे अपनी स्कूली शिक्षा पूरी करने के बाद सेना में शामिल हो गए।

Remembering Subedar Bhoop Singh🇮🇳
Subedar Bhoop Singh Gujjar hailed from Kherla village in Dausa district of Rajasthan. And was born on 10 Jun 1971, Sub Bhoop Singh had joined the Army in 1992 at the age of 21 years and was inducted into the Corps of EME. Son of Sri Rajhans Gujjar, a farmer, Sub Bhoop Singh always nursed the idea of joining the Armed Forces since his childhood. After completing his training, he served in numerous Army bases during his service career of over 24 years.
Sub Bhoop Singh’s son Vishvendra also followed in the footsteps of his father and joined the Army. During 2017, Sub Bhoop Singh as well as his son were serving with units deployed in J & K area. Sub Bhoop Singh’s unit was based in Kupwara district along the LOC.

During 2017, Subedar Bhoop Singh’s unit was based in the Army garrison located at Panzgam in Kupwara district, about 120 km from Srinagar. Kupwara is one of the most frequented infiltration routes used by militants to cross the Line of Control, especially after the snow starts melting. On 27 Apr 2017, three armed militants descended down the wooded mountains and tip-toed towards the Army garrison at Panzgam at 4.30 am.
They hurled grenades and started indiscriminate firing after cutting through two barbed wire fences from the rear side of the camp. When they began cutting the fence, soldiers on duty noticed the suspicious activity and challenged them. The three militants taken by surprise fired at the guards and tried to rush towards the living quarters.
Capt Ayush Yadav from 310 Med Regt was woken up by the deafening sound of gunfire and sensed something ominous. He threw his blanket away , grabbed his AK 47 and rushed out. Capt Ayush Yadav engaged the terrorists and didn’t allow them to proceed towards the living quarters. This provided the crucial time for the quick reaction team to organize themselves and take on the terrorists.
A fierce gun battle ensued thereafter wherein two terrorists were eliminated. However, Sub Bhoop singh and Naik Bhoota Venkata Ramana got severely injured during the exchange of fire and later succumbed to their injuries. Capt Ayush Yadav also succumbed to his injuries and was martyred along with these brave hearts. Sub Bhoop Singh was a valiant and dedicated soldier who laid down his life in the service of the nation.

सूबेदार भूप सिंह गुर्जर राजस्थान के दौसा जिले के खेरला गांव के रहने वाले थे। और 10 जून 1971 को पैदा हुए सूबेदार भूप सिंह 1992 में 21 साल की उम्र में सेना में भर्ती हुए थे और उन्हें ईएमई कोर में शामिल किया गया था। वे एक किसान, श्री राजहंस गुर्जर के पुत्र थे | सूबेदार भूप सिंह ने हमेशा बचपन से ही सशस्त्र बलों में शामिल होने के विचार का पालन किया। अपना प्रशिक्षण पूरा करने के बाद, उन्होंने 24 वर्षों से अधिक के अपने सेवा करियर के दौरान कई सैन्य ठिकानों में सेवा की।
