আদিবাসী সমাজে প্রচলিত লোকনৃত্যগুলি তাদের সংস্কৃতি, ধর্ম ও জীবনধারার অবিচ্ছেদ্য অংশ, যা বিভিন্ন উৎসব ও সামাজিক অনুষ্ঠানে পরিবেশিত হয়, যেমন – ঝুমুর (ঝাড়খণ্ড, ওড়িশা, পশ্চিমবঙ্গ), ছৌ নাচ (পুরুলিয়া, ঝাড়খণ্ড), কর্ম ও মুন্ডা নাচ (মধ্য ভারত), সরহুল, ফাগুয়া, ডোমকচ, পাইকা (ঝাড়খণ্ড), এবং মিজোরামের জেরাও (বাঁশ নাচ) ও খুলাম নাচ, যা ঋতু ও কৃষিকাজের সঙ্গে সম্পর্কিত।

আজকের আলোচনা সাঁওতাল নৃত্য । এই লোকনৃত্য হলো একটি প্রাণবন্ত, গোষ্ঠীভিত্তিক পরিবেশনা যেখানে নারী-পুরুষ একসাথে নাচে, যা তাদের সংস্কৃতি ও উৎসবের অবিচ্ছেদ্য অংশ; এতে মাদল, ঢোল, বাঁশির তালে তালে পুরুষরা ধুতি ও পাগড়ি পরে এবং মহিলারা শাড়ি বা লুঙ্গি পরে, পাখি বা ময়ূর পালক ও পাতা ও ফুল ব্যবহার করে, যা তাদের আনন্দ, কৃষি, শিকার এবং যুদ্ধকৌশলের প্রতিফলন ঘটায়।

The Role of Mayur Pankha (Peacock Feather)
Lord Krishna Association: Lord Krishna is famously depicted wearing a single peacock feather on his crown, known as the Mayur pankh or Sikhipincham in Sanskrit. This feather is a symbol of divinity, beauty, and grace.
Mayur Dance (Peacock Dance): There is a separate folk dance form, known as the Mayur Dance, originating from the Braj region of Uttar Pradesh, which specifically involves dancers wearing elaborate peacock costumes with colorful feathers to depict the love story of Radha and Krishna or to imitate a peacock's movements.

Traditional Costume: The traditional Bharatanatyam costume is a stitched sari in bright colors, usually with a pleated fan at the front, and extensive gold jewelry. A peacock feather is not a typical part of this standard attire.

Alarippu: A warm-up piece focusing on abstract rhythm.
Jatiswaram: Complex pure dance sequences.

While the peacock itself might be referenced in the abhinaya of a Bharatanatyam piece dedicated to Lord Krishna, the mayur pankha is central to the separate Mayur folk dance and not the general costume or structure of Bharatanatyam.
