The language of Jesus and his early Disciples come alive. This channel is dedicated to materials related to Galilean Aramaic.
Most videos on YouTube that claim they are presenting the words of Jesus in "the original Aramaic" are either in Syriac or late Eastern Jewish Aramaic dialects. Neither of these Aramaic languages are what Jesus and his Disciples spoke. Galilean (or "Jewish Palestinian Aramaic" as it is often called) is an obscure Western dialect that is not very well known and sorely misunderstood. We're trying to fix that.

Aaand we're back up!
I should have posted this here earlier, but we moved! Today, in fact. And I had to move our server as well -- which hosts the GalileanAramaic.com website. :-)
So if you tried to access any of the Galilean Aramaic pages, they should be available once more. :-)
Peace,

The Aramaic Designs Youtube channel has turned 16 years old today. :-)
More is coming, I promise! But the big thing that's facing us right now — that has been the direct impediment to that — is that we're *moving* over the course of the next week or so.
The new place is going to afford us some new studio space, too, so the werewolf background that a bunch of you guys didn't like will no longer feature. (It'll still be over on the GROS channel, though. :-) )
Updates soon!
Peace,

Update to GalileanAramaic.com dropped:
- Various typos fixed by our project supporters.
- Adding in new Articles from the old AramaicNT.org site on "Problems with Peshitta Primacy", and the "Sermon on the Mount? Or the Plain?".
- Added link to the Galilean Aramaic Gospels project.
- Fixed link to Learn Galilean Aramaic.
And I already have more updates queued up.

Hey guys! I need *your* input on something important:
I'm getting ready to publish the main scaffolding for the Gospels translation I'm working on.
What do you think would be the best domain to put it under?

Yikes! 4,000 subscribers! I must be doing something... I'm not going to say "right". I'm doing *something*. :-)
Although I have been relatively quiet (have to keep my attention on my students during the semester) I *have* been working on more stuff, and winter break is approaching.
Specifically, as I continue to squash typos in the Grammar and build some new lessons for the Learning app, I wanted to resurrect my old Aramaic Words Translation --- but to do that I needed some textual resources.
So, in the spirit of my old colleague George Kiraz's "Comparative Edition of the Syriac Gospels" I'm roughly collating all of the Christian Palestinian Aramaic New Testament fragments from the early period along with the CPA Lectionary as well.
Where Christian Palestinian Aramaic (or "Melkite" Aramaic) is not Galilean, it is the closest surviving language to Galilean that has recorded New Testament materials.
So these pieces (such as Codex Climaci Rescriptus, stuff from the Cambridge Theological Seminary, the Damascus fragments, etc. etc.) alongside the Syriac tradition (the Peshitta, and Old Syriac Gospels) plus the Greek all combine to form a Voltron of an apparatus that is precisely what I need to continue my work. :-)
And the magnificent thing is that the initial collation is *complete*! I just need to figure out how I want to publish it. And then from there make use of it.

Got to go to the Princeton Art Museum this weekend and I spotted some Aramaic "in the wild" (Palmyrene Aramaic to be precise). :-)

I need to sit down and work on some audio files, as well as build up some new lessons.
What unit(s) should I do next?

Just re-activated my old Facebook page for Aramaic Designs:

Lots of old stuff there. And hopefully some new stuff soon. :-)
(And as soon as things aren't crazy busy, more stuff here too.)

Hey guys. Over here in New Jersey we're buckling down for a Nor'easter (essentially, a big storm) that's going to sweep through over today and tomorrow.
There is a small chance that my server that hosts the Galilean Aramaic project may lose connectivity and go down for a bit.
If that happens, don't panic; I'll have it back up as soon as I can. :-)
