A Content Delivery Network (CDN) makes websites faster and more reliable by storing copies of content on servers around the world. When a user visits a site, the CDN delivers the content from the nearest server, reducing load times and strain on the main server. It also helps handle more traffic by spreading requests across multiple servers, preventing slowdowns or crashes during busy periods. If the main server goes down, the CDN can still show saved versions of the site, keeping it online. Additionally, CDNs protect against attacks like DDoS by blocking harmful traffic before it reaches the main server.
By delivering content closer to users, CDNs improve speed, security, and overall experience. Popular CDN providers include Cloudflare, AWS CloudFront, and Akamai.
