"The Boy Who Forgot My Name"

Everyone in the hospital knew Room 417.

Because the boy inside it kept forgetting.

Not everything. Just… people.

Every morning, *Lin Yu* woke up with the same question in his eyes:
“Hi… sorry, have we met?”

And every morning, *Chen Wei* answered the same way:
“Yeah. We have.”

He never said how.
He never said why his hands shook when he spoke.

The truth was, they had been inseparable for two years.

They met in college. Became friends over late-night study sessions and shared headphones. Fell in love somewhere between jokes, long walks, and accidental hand touches.

They kissed for the first time on the terrace in the rain. Lin Yu had laughed nervously and said,
“This is scary… but it feels right.”

Three months later, Lin Yu was in an accident.

He survived.
His memories didn’t.

The doctors called it anterograde amnesia. Lin Yu could remember the past—but every new day reset like a blank page.

So every morning, Chen Wei had to meet the boy he loved for the first time.

At first, Chen Wei tried to remind him.

He showed photos. Videos. Old messages.

Lin Yu would smile kindly and say,
“Wow… we seem close.”

That word shattered him.

So Chen Wei stopped explaining.

Instead, he started falling in love again.
Every single day.

He learned how Lin Yu liked his coffee.

One night during a power cut, the hospital room glowed with candlelight. Rain hit the windows softly.

Lin Yu grabbed Chen Wei’s hand, panicked.
“I don’t remember my life… but I know I don’t want to lose you.”

Chen Wei finally broke.

“I’m not just someone you met here,” he whispered.
“I’m the person who loves you. I loved you before the accident. And I still do.”

Lin Yu stared at him.

“I don’t remember loving you,” he said slowly,
“but my heart feels safe with you.”

So he kissed him.

It felt new.
It felt old.
It felt like remembering something without memory.

Months passed.

Doctors tried new therapies: music, videos, emotional recall.

Nothing worked at first.

But something changed quietly.

Even when Lin Yu forgot facts, he started remembering feelings.

He woke up calmer.
Less confused.
More connected.

One day, the doctor played a video from college.

It showed Lin Yu and Chen Wei on the terrace, laughing in the rain.

In the video, Lin Yu said:
“If I ever forget you, promise you’ll make me fall in love with you again.”

Lin Yu’s eyes filled with tears.

“You didn’t leave me,” he whispered to Chen Wei.
“You stayed.”

That night, something miraculous happened.

Lin Yu woke up.

And didn’t ask the question.

Instead, he smiled and said,
“Good morning, Chen Wei.”

Chen Wei froze. “You… remember?”

“Not everything,” Lin Yu said softly,
“But I remember choosing you. And I choose you again.”

Some memories never returned.

But the love did.

They moved into a small apartment filled with sunlight and photos. Lin Yu kept a journal—not because he had to, but because he wanted to remember their story.

On the last page, he wrote:

And this time, Lin Yu didn’t forget Chen Wei’s name.
