Factors vs. Factorials: What’s the Difference? 🤔 | Math Essentials

Hey everyone! Today, let’s clear up the difference between two commonly confused terms in math: factors and factorials. Though they may sound similar, they have distinct meanings and uses. Let’s break it down! 👇

What Are Factors?
Factors are the numbers that divide a given number exactly, leaving no remainder. They’re the building blocks of a number, showing which whole numbers can be multiplied together to reach the original number.

For example, factors of 12 are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 12.
Factors are important in math for simplifying fractions, finding common multiples, and solving problems with divisibility.

What Are Factorials?
Factorials, denoted by an exclamation mark (!), are a totally different concept. The factorial of a number is the product of that number and all positive integers below it, down to 1.

For example, 5! (5 factorial) means 5 × 4 × 3 × 2 × 1 = 120.
Factorials are used frequently in probability, permutations, combinations, and even in some areas of calculus.

Key Differences:

Factors are specific numbers that divide another number without a remainder.
Factorials are products of a sequence of descending positive integers from the chosen number to 1.

Quick Recap:

Factors of 12: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12
12! (Factorial of 12): 12 × 11 × 10 × … × 2 × 1 = 479,001,600

Factors of 48 Explained | Dive Into Factorization!

Hey everyone! 👋 Today, we’re exploring the factors of 48. Let’s break down factorization and find all the numbers that divide evenly into 48.

What Are Factors?
Factors are numbers that multiply together to give us the original number. For 48, we’re looking for numbers that can divide 48 without leaving a remainder.

Factors of 48:
The full list of factors of 48 is: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 24, and 48.

Each of these numbers divides 48 evenly, so they are all factors of 48.
