On ‪@theGuardian‬ – The High Court has ruled that the Home Office’s decision to ban Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation was unlawful, a significant setback for the government.

Since the ban was introduced seven months ago, more than 2,500 people have been arrested for supporting the group. The Guardian was at the Royal Courts of Justice as opponents to the ban gathered again, expecting to be arrested, and documented their celebrations as the judgment was released. While the ruling called for the ban to be overturned, it remains in place as the Home Office prepares an appeal.

The co-founder of Palestine Action has won a legal challenge to the home secretary’s decision to ban the group under anti-terrorism laws. Palestine Action was the first direct action protest group to be proscribed.

The decision was widely condemned and was defied by a civil disobedience campaign, during which more than 2,000 people have been arrested. From July last year, being a member of – or showing support for – the group became an offence punishable by up to 14 years in prison. Ratcliffe backlash: outrage over Manchester United boss comments ► https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfjYl...
Pep Guardiola has said that blaming people from overseas for a country’s problems is wrong, the Manchester City manager’s comments coming amid the fallout of Sir Jim Ratcliffe claiming the United Kingdom is being “colonised by immigrants”.

Ratcliffe’s comment, made in an interview with Sky News on Wednesday, has led to widespread condemnation, including from within football, leading to Manchester United’s single largest minority owner saying he was sorry that his “choice of language has offended some people in the UK and Europe”.

Watch: Rising hate in the UK ► https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rojgo...
Dual British nationals have been warned they may be denied boarding a flight, ferry or train to the UK after 25 February unless they carry a valid British passport.

The warning by the Home Office comes amid scores of complaints from British people living or travelling abroad who have suddenly found themselves at risk of not being allowed into the UK.

The problem has arisen because of a change in border controls on 25 February, when everyone travelling to the UK will need permission to travel, unless they are a British or Irish citizen or are otherwise exempt. Visitors for short stays must apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation that costs £16.

But dual nationals will, for the first time, be obliged to show their British passport to travel to the UK or pay what many believe is a punitive price of £589 for a “certificate of entitlement” to attach to their second nationality passport in order to board a flight, ferry or train.

Canada school shooting: what we know so far ► https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuZzg...
The 18-year-old suspect in a high school shooting on Wednesday in British Columbia had previously created a mass shooting simulator on the gaming platform Roblox, it has been revealed.

The simulator, set in what appeared to be a virtual shopping mall, allowed users – represented as Roblox-style avatars – to pick up weapons and shoot other players, 404 Media first reported on Thursday.

Users first identified the suspect’s Roblox account and game on Kiwi Farms, a site known for doxxing and trolling. After the shooting, Canadian police identified the suspect as Jesse Van Rootselaar.

The US secretary of state, Marco Rubio, has said he will have a chance to meet Volodymyr Zelenskyy at this week’s Munich Security Conference. A year after the vice-president, JD Vance, stunned assembled dignitaries with a verbal assault on many of the US’s closest allies in Europe, Rubio plans to take a less contentious but philosophically similar approach when he addresses the annual gathering on Saturday, US officials say.

Rachel Reeves is under pressure to reassure MPs over the state of the UK’s public finances, amid concerns that the rising cost of special educational needs and disabilities (Send) could leave a significant hole in the government’s financial buffer.

Meg Hillier, the chair of the all-party House of Commons Treasury committee, said the chancellor should make clear her long-term plans for the £6bn-a-year Send bill as uncertainty grows over how it will be accounted for at the end of the decade.

Why are all my weather apps different? ► https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSAhR...
A major road across the Pennines has been closed as an Arctic blast brought snow, ice and freezing temperatures to Scotland and northern England.

The Met Office said widespread travel disruption was likely on Friday as it issued two yellow warnings that will remain in place until noon. Freezing temperatures have led to a four-day health alert for cold weather.

In Scotland, the warning is for snow showers as deep as 10cm on high ground and 2cm on low ground. Freezing temperatures could make driving dangerous, forecasters say, and journey times for people could be longer.
