I was so excited about the colonialism/imperialism commentary in Bad Bunny's superbowl show that I stayed up all night to edit this video!! ENJOY!! Let me know if I should do Kid Rock's halftime show next (just kidding.)
I am RUSHING to get an episode out tomorrow about Bad Bunny's halftime show, because it was an absolute masterclass in colonialism. I'm in a rush, so please *help me choose a title!*
Friends, big news: we have raised more than $3000 for MIRAC!!
THANK YOU to everyone who has purchased a print! We are printing them now and will begin shipping this weekend. Anyone have any recs for shows I can binge while I pack these??
Please keep sharing the video – it makes a difference. ✌️Thank you for your support.
New Episode! (It's short.) This feels important, so I'm releasing it today instead of Saturday. Fun fact: it was so cold when I filmed this that my camera died 3 times! I hope you watch, like, comment, hype, all that jazz. 100% of the ad revenue I generate from this goes to miracmn.com.
Tomorrow morning, I’ll be painting this sunrise while standing in -11f. This will be for a special episode: “Why Are Minnesotans So Resilient?” (hint: it’s the cold.)
I’m excited and a bit nervous to record this, but now is such an important time and I hope that my episode gives you all a reprieve from the assault of intense footage you’ve been seeing from here. I’ll try to get it live as soon as possible, assuming I survive the painting sesh in the morning 🥶
"Frozen Canoes". A Minnesota scene. I sat on this dock yesterday and painted this. These have been hard days. If you’re feeling it too, try doing something creative. The act of creating – whether painting, baking, playing guitar, or something else – helps us process the emotions that we can't put into words.
Yesterday, I went live while painting this. It was fun to have a few subscribers stop by. Thanks to those of you who hung out with me the whole time!!!
I’d love to know if people want more painting content? I think it would be fun to do paint-alongs every once in a while!
My next episode (out tomorrow!) is about California's history of building utopias in the desert. There are cults, murders, and mysteries. I was inspired by a recent trip to Joshua Tree, where I learned about Slab City (which features in my episode). It's an abandoned military base deep in the Mojave Desert that now serves as a sort of anarchist commune. It's a weird place.
Things in Minneapolis are still rough, and I'm keeping my head down. Any revenue I earn from tomorrow's episode will go to www.miracmn.com/, an immigrant rights agency in Minnesota. The damage done to our vibrant community here is hard to put into words. There will be a great deal of rebuilding once this is all over.
I live a few blocks from where the ICE shooting occurred, and it’s been profoundly difficult to process for me. Incidentally, since then, my latest video (which opens with a segment about ICE) has effectively stopped being shown to new viewers, after reaching about 10,000 impressions. That is the least of my concerns right now, but it's a good reminder of a difficult truth: the information we’re exposed to is often determined by the platforms we rely on. Stay informed and stay safe, everyone
