Yoga with Roseanne

Namaste Fellow Yoga Practionners!

I hope you enjoy the videos on this channel.

The practices you will find here, infuse many styles of yoga with a focus on variety, mobility, somatic awareness and brain health (through complex movements and pendiculation). With 25 years of personal practice (4 of those teaching), I have been inspired by many great instructors and now bring that forward to you on the mat.

I am a 350-RYT with Canadian Yoga Alliance and have additional qualifications in Yin Yoga and continue my self-study and private mentorships. I also completed my mat Pilates teacher training and a Trauma Informed Mat Pilates course.

Prior to this, I taught elementary school (special education) but after a traumatic brain injury I left the profession. Yoga and asana practice help me deal with the aftermath and self-regulate (thank goodness I was already a practionner). I hope these classes will help you along your journey and support you on and off the mat.

Enjoy!

A Message to All Yoga Practitioners and Subscribers,

I would like to thank everyone for their support of this channel over the past few years. After much consideration, I have decided to post only occasionally on this channel. Over time, I have found that I enjoy working in person with clients and with my traumatic brain injury. I find the editing and prepping videos challenging and need to reconsider how I spend my time. The teaching itself I love, but recording videos regularly and working on the computer takes its toll. I plan to be more mindful about my time online, so I don't experience burnout.

The are over 200 videos posted that will remain up, and when I have a sequence I can't resist but share, I will add it to the collection.

Thank you so much, yogis and may you find moments of presence every day.

I grew up watching The Nature of Things with Dr. David Suzuki and am inspired by his honesty and bravery. Years later, I ran my school's eco team and ever since have tried to make small changes to my habits that will do less harm (sometimes successfully, at other times falling short).

The environment and climate change may seem to have nothing to do with yoga, but to me, it does. The Yamas or ethical principles as part of the eighth limb path include: non-violence, truthfulness, non-stealing, moderation (right use of your energies) and non-possessiveness ("mine" mentality), and we can take them into consideration when thinking about how we interact with our environment.

Questions/Reflections For Consideration:

Non-Violence: Striving to do no harm extends to all living things and thereby the environment. How can I care for the environment to do no/less harm to other living things?

Honesty: Looking honestly at our behaviours, at the situation we find ourselves in, is part of yoga. Can I accept the reality of what we've done to our planet and something about it?

Non-Stealing: Am I taking more than my share of resources from the planet? Am I leaving anything for future generations or taking what isn't mine to take?

Right Use of Energy/Moderation/Conservation of Energies: Am I dedicating my energies to worthwhile causes and pursuits (like Dr. Suzuki has)? Am I using moderation in my consumption of environmental resources?

Possessiveness: What am I doing to give back to our planet? Can I let go of unhealthy, environmentally damaging habits in place of healthy ones?

Thank you, Dr. Suzuk, for telling us the truth and for this call to action. In this episode of the current you can hear what he has to say.

I hosted a small Yin Yoga Karma Class in my living room on Tuesday. The price of admission was 2 canned food items for the Food Bank but they all brought extra (which is just like them😉). Thanks to Diane, Joanne, Melanie and Anita for attending class and supporting a good cause.

Need a relaxing class to unwind before sleep? Try this restorative practice. Legs up for many reduces anxiety and is a great pre-bedtime posture.
