Former Information Minister Moses Kunkuyu has reported to Area 30 Police Headquarters in Lilongwe, where authorities are interrogating him over remarks he allegedly made during the funeral of the late Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Madalitso Kazombo.
Police claim that his sermon at the Malawi Congress Party headquarters contained statements that could be interpreted as inciting violence. The situation has also sparked wider concerns about detention without charge.
Kunkuyu’s lawyer, George Kadzipatike, confirmed that his client voluntarily surrendered himself after learning he was wanted for questioning.
At this point, it remains unclear whether Kunkuyu will face formal charges or be released after the interrogation.
