Creative Income & Publishing Made Simple

The Home Boss

I uploaded my first book to Amazon KDP in 2019.
Hit publish. Watched the dashboard. Waited for sales.
A few came in. I felt like I was doing something right.
Until I realised something that changed everything.
I had no idea who bought my book.
Not their name. Not their email. Nothing.
They weren't my customers. They were Amazon's customers who happened to buy something I made.

And that's when it hit me.
I was building my entire publishing business on rented land.
If Amazon changed their algorithm tomorrow, my books could disappear.
If they suspended my account, I'd lose everything.
No way to reach my readers. No way to tell them about my next book. No way to rebuild.

Because I didn't own the relationship. Amazon did.

Here's what I wish someone had told me in 2019:
Build your email list from day one.
Because every book you publish without an email list is a missed opportunity.
Every reader who loves your work but has no way to hear from you again is a connection lost.
Every launch you do without a warm audience means you're starting from zero.
The publishers who have a steady income and aren't terrified of Amazon?
They have email lists.
Not huge ones. Just people who said, 'Yes, I want to hear from you.'
And when they launch a new book, they don't hope Amazon shows it to the right people.
They email their list. "Hey, I made something new."
And sales come in. Consistently. Predictably.
Because they own the relationship.
But here's what stops most publishers.
Building an email list feels complicated.
Mailchimp. ConvertKit. Forms. Landing pages. Tech overwhelm.

That's why I created the Substack Email List Challenge inside my Home Boss Publishing Academy.
It's simple. No complicated tools. Just me walking you through every step until it's done.
We set up your Substack together. We write your first email together. We get your first subscribers together.
Because I know what happens when you try to do it alone. You get stuck. You give up.
And six months later, you're still refreshing your KDP dashboard, hoping Amazon will be kind to you today.

Join the Academy with a 7-day free trial.
Come inside. Take the Substack Challenge. Set up your email list on Substack the easy way this time.
Then decide if you want to stay. It's $37/month for the first 50 founding members (then $47).

Cancel anytime during the trial. No pressure.
I just want to give you the chance to build something Amazon can't take away from you.
A real publishing business. Not a lottery ticket.

The Home Boss

Only one more sleep until the Home Boss Publishing Academy opens!
I’m so excited about it, and I wanted to give you a little peek into what’s inside.
We already have two challenges waiting for you.
One is all about helping you build gentle, consistent momentum with your publishing goals — perfect if you’ve been feeling stuck or unsure where to start.
And the other is designed to help you reconnect with your creativity and the “vibe” behind your book ideas, so you can create from a place that feels fun and inspired again.
I honestly think either of these challenges will help you move forward in your publishing business, especially if you’ve been craving structure or a little nudge.
And this is just the beginning — I’ll be adding more regular challenges as we go, based on what you need and what the community asks for.
I also can’t wait for our weekly calls. They’re going to be so much fun, but also a really supportive way to stay accountable and build our businesses together.
Tomorrow’s the day… and I can’t wait to welcome you inside 💛

The Home Boss

I hope you’re having a lovely weekend, whatever you’re up to.

I’ve been putting the final touches on the Publishing Academy today, polishing lessons, organising resources, and making sure everything feels clear and supportive for you.

I’ll share another little peek tomorrow, and then on Monday the doors officially open.

Thank you for being here with me while I build this 💛

A little update on the membership 💛
A while ago I shared that I was building something new, a space for creators who want support, clarity, and a gentle push as they grow their publishing journey.
I’ve been quietly working away behind the scenes, and it’s nearly ready.
This week I’m polishing the lessons, organising the resources, and making sure everything feels clear, warm, and genuinely helpful. I want this to be a place where you feel supported, not overwhelmed.
I’ll share the full details on Monday, but I just wanted to let you know it’s coming. If you’ve been craving structure, encouragement, and a community that actually feels good… I think you’ll love what’s inside.
I can't wait to share more!

🌟 Happy New Year, everyone! 🌟

I hope the start of 2026 has been kind to you and that you’ve had a chance to rest and reset a little.

Before we get too far into the year, I want to say thank you for being here. This community means a lot to me, and I really appreciate every one of you who is writing, publishing, experimenting, learning, or quietly working away behind the scenes.

Over Christmas, I spent some time thinking about the membership idea I mentioned, and I’m now much closer to saying yes to it. I’m actually really excited about what it could become and how useful it could be for all of us. I’ll share more soon, but it’s definitely moving in a positive direction.

I’m also really looking forward to focusing more on the part of publishing that comes after the book is finished. This year, I’ll be putting a lot more energy into helping you promote your work in a way that feels natural and sustainable, and into making the marketing side of things feel less overwhelming.

Wishing you a year of steady progress, new ideas, and confidence in whatever you’re creating.
Here’s to a great 2026. 🤍

The Home Boss

That strange space between Christmas and New Year where time feels optional.
The emails slow down. The to-do list loses its urgency. You eat leftovers at odd hours and call it a meal.

I actually love this pause.
No pressure to plan. No pressure to hustle. Just a gentle moment to notice what worked this year and what quietly didn’t.

If you are feeling a bit foggy or unmotivated, you are not behind. You are just human.
January will arrive soon enough.

Merry Christmas to you all 🎄💛

Thank you so much for being part of this community. Whether you’ve published your first book this year, your fiftieth, or you’re still working behind the scenes, I truly appreciate you.

Wishing you a peaceful Christmas and a happy, creative, and productive 2026. I’m really looking forward to sharing more with you in the new year.

December can feel strange, can’t it?

You’re thinking about next year, full of ideas… but your energy feels a bit foggy and starting anything feels harder than usual.

If you’re feeling stuck or mentally tired right now, here are 3 gentle things that help me clear the brainfog:

1️⃣ Change your mindset
This isn’t a race. This season can be about reflection, not pressure.

2️⃣ Stay connected
A quick chat, a comment, or being around like-minded people can really lift your motivation.

3️⃣ Keep learning

Even watching one short video or reading something helpful counts as progress.

💡 I shared a video on this a while back where I walk through practical steps to get unstuck and move forward, even when motivation is low.

Small steps still matter 💙

I don’t always stop to notice it, but our dining room holds a lot of good moments spent with family.

Building a business from home has taught me to value moments like these even more.
The freedom, the flexibility, the ability to be present in the small, ordinary parts of life.

This is what it’s really about.
