Cuba woke up this Monday practically without visible commercial air traffic in its airspace, in an unprecedented image that starkly reflects the severity of the fuel crisis the country is experiencing.

The data from Flightradar24 shows that in the early hours of the day, only one commercial flight was recorded leaving the island, the CMP245 from Copa Airlines, headed to Panama City.

Last Sunday, the José Martí International Airport in Havana issued the international NOTAM A0356/26, confirming that nine international airports in Cuba will not have Jet A-1 fuel for a full month, from February 10, 2026, at 05:00 UTC until March 11, 2026.

The measure affects the terminals in Havana, Varadero, Cienfuegos, Santa Clara, Camagüey, Cayo Coco, Holguín, Santiago de Cuba, and Manzanillo.

The unavailability of standard fuel for commercial aviation forces foreign airlines to fly to Cuba with additional fuel from their origin, make technical stops in third countries to refuel, or, in some cases, cancel operations altogether.

The potential impact is significant. Key connections with the United States, Canada, Europe, and Latin America, including routes to Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, Madrid, Cancún, Mexico City, and Panama, are now shrouded in a scenario of high uncertainty. The image of Cuba "without planes" at dawn reinforces the perception of a country increasingly isolated, even in terms of air connectivity.

An AirAsia flight from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur was diverted to Brisbane last night following a change in cabin pressure a few hours into the flight.

After departing from Sydney at 9:50pm, Flight D7221 was scheduled to arrive in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, at 3:30pm, but the aircraft needed to change course at at 11:56pm local time.

Shortly after takeoff, the flight crew observed an alert related to cabin pressure. While the cabin pressure remained at a safe level, the Captain chose to make a precautionary diversion to Brisbane airport, in line with established operational safety procedures.

The aircraft will undergo a detailed engineering assessment in line with safety protocols.

The aircraft sent the international general emergency code "squawking 7700” when the alert was noted, which is used by pilots in emergency situations.

The airline said: “All 142 guests and 11 crew disembarked without incident”.
With passengers and crew in Brisbane, AirAsia shared an updated flight schedule: “Once the aircraft has been assessed and deemed safe to operate, guests will continue their journey to KUL.

“The newest estimation of time of departure from Brisbane to Kuala Lumpur is 7:00pm on Monday 9 February. All guests have been accommodated, and service recovery options are being offered.”

Benyamin Ismail, General Manager at AirAsia X said: “This precautionary diversion was carried out in line with our operational safety procedures. Our flight crew are highly trained in safety procedures and took the appropriate measures for an issue of this nature.

February 4, 2026: It was a routine night training flight. A CFI and two commercial students — one in the left seat, and one a “back-seater” — had just been cleared for takeoff at Melbourne Orlando International Airport (KMLB) in Florida.

The airplane, and its crew of three, would never even make it off the ground.

The airplane, a 2013 Piper PA-28-181 Archer, belonged to a well-respected medium-sized collegiate 141 program. The trio loaded up on the college’s ramp.

Cleared for takeoff, the student taxies onto the runway, but apparently he mistakes the right-hand runway edge line for the runway’s centerline — which is still some 75 feet away — powers up, and proceeds to take out a runway edge light, collapsing the landing gear, and skids off into the grass.

The excursion causes “substantial” damage to the airplane, and no doubt the same level of damage to the instructor’s career — the pilot shortage notwithstanding.

Apparently, the left-seat student started following the yellow taxiway centerline, but as he crossed the runway edge line, he decided it had to be the center line. Quoting his statement to the NTSB, “While proceeding along the center of the taxiway, I saw a white line, and thought it was a centerline, and aligned with it.” He verified his heading with the compass, “and put full power for takeoff.”

Two seconds later he hears the sound of his right main being torn off.

A T'Way Air Boeing 737-800 flying from Jeju Island, South Korea, lost a tire during landing at Taiwan's Taoyuan International Airport on Sunday, forcing a temporary runway closure.

The incident involving flight TW687 occurred at 3.55pm local time. A passenger on board captured footage of the plane landing with its right main landing gear tire missing.

The aircraft subsequently taxied safely to gate A2 at 3.54pm. All passengers and crew were safe.

After the incident, a Japan Airlines flight was suspected of running over tire debris. As a precaution, the airport closed its north runway for inspection, causing several aircraft to abort their landings and go around. The runway was later reopened.

The cause of the tire detachment is under investigation.

An Air Canada flight diverted to St. John’s International Airport, Newfoundland, due to an ‘unruly passenger.’ According to CBC News, the incident unfolded late Friday night, February 6, when Air Canada flight AC858 departed Toronto for London Heathrow on what was expected to be a routine overnight transatlantic journey.

The Boeing aircraft was carrying 368 passengers when the situation onboard escalated, prompting the flight crew to divert the plane to St. John’s, Newfoundland, where it made an unscheduled landing on Saturday morning.

“The aircraft was met with authorities,” Air Canada told CBC News, confirming that police were involved upon arrival. Social media posts on X claimed that passengers were asked to “delete videos of the incident” and alleged that the individual involved was screaming threats onboard.

Air Canada has not commented on the circulating claims or provided further details about the incident or the passenger involved, saying the matter has been handed over to law enforcement.
