In 2012, I launched the non-profit Advocates for Healthy Communities as an effort to help promote and create healthy, active places. Since that time I've been exploring, documenting, and profiling established, emerging, and aspiring Active Towns wherever they might be. The goal is simple: produce high-quality multimedia content to help inspire the creation of more safe and inviting, environments that promote a "Culture of Activity" for "All Ages & Abilities".

I hope your December is off to a fabulous start and I just wanted to pop in on the Community page here to touch base and give y'all an update and invite you check out this latest video from my Summer 2025 North American Amtrak Tour.
The update first: I have relocated to Kailua Kona bringing the Active Towns homebase back to the Island of Hawaii. So, in addition to producing videos from across mainland North America, you'll start to see a trickle of local island content as well.
As for this video, I am super excited to share Part One of this very special ride with Jon Larsen, the former Salt Lake City Transportation, Division Director (he's since moved over to the Utah Transit Authority) and Jeff Gulden, a city transportation engineer. I hope you enjoy the ride 👇

Hey Everyone,
I want to share this very special documentary here with you today.
It is a truly beautiful film about an extraordinary performance by one of the nicest humans out on the trails.
And I really mean that... just a couple months ago, immediately before this event happens, when I was out running the Foothills Trail here in Boulder (I'm here once again as I am typing this) I crossed paths with David twice... both times he looked me in the eyes and said "You're amazing!" I absolutely love this.
Check it out folks... I promise that you won't regret it... and yeah, director Cody Bare, you freaking nailed it.
‪@MountainRoche‬, you and Megan are such amazing, loving humans and that's to say nothing of the fact that you're also inspiring ambassadors for active living and a more loving society. Thank you both for all that you do.

As I wrap up final night in Tucson, I wanted to let you know that I'll be sharing my experiences and observations in video here on the Channel very soon, with the intent to highlight the city’s emerging bicycle network, quiet bike blvd streets, fabulous traffic calming installations, budding bike culture, and challenges, but until then here are a few snapshots from my various walkabouts.
