The Battle of Khaybar took place in 7 AH (628–629 CE) near Madinah and was not a religious war, but a response to broken treaties and serious security threats, as exiled leaders of Banu Nadir and other Khaybar groups had supported the Quraysh, helped plan the Battle of the Trench, and continued plotting against Madinah, turning Khaybar into a fortified center of hostility; the Muslims, led by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, included prominent Companions such as Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA), Abu Bakr (RA), Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA), and many other Sahaba, and they acted defensively by capturing the forts one by one, with Hazrat Ali (RA) playing a decisive and widely recognized role in the final phase by leading the assault that resulted in the capture of the last and strongest fortress, effectively ending the battle; after the victory there was no forced conversion, no collective punishment, and no genocide—the residents were allowed to remain under a documented economic agreement; today, some political narratives misuse this event through slogans like “Khaybar was your last chance,” a phrase not found in authentic Islamic sources, to provoke hatred by stripping away historical context, whereas the correct understanding is that Khaybar was a specific historical conflict about boundaries and justice, not a threat to people today and not a basis for collective blame—history should be understood, not weaponized.
