One of the most frequent questions I get asked from prospective graduate students is not receiving a reply from potential supervisors after multiple attempts.
Following are my 2 cents based on my personal experience.
1. Make sure you are sending personalized emails related to their research profile and have expressed interest in their work specifically. Here is a template of resume/email format etc.
2. Don't make your emails super marketing emails bragging only about your achievements- make sure to link them with THEIR INTEREST. See if you are only focused on yourself, supervisors won't be interested in your work at all.
3. Ask genuine questions and suggest future directions in your email so your supervisor can appreciate your intellect
4. Follow-up follow-up - cannot stress this enough. Have an Excel sheet, keep track of the supervisors you have contacted, and schedule a follow-up after 4-5 days of sending the first email. (But only send a follow-up email once- in case of no reply, move on).
5. Connect with seniors in that lab- they might be able to provide you with genuine feedback and inform you if/when there is an opening.
