Nowhere does history indulge in repetition so often or so uniformly as in Wall Street. When you read contemporary accounts of booms or panics, the one thing that strikes you most forcibly is how little either stock speculation or stock speculators today differ from yesterday. The game doesn't change and neither does human nature.

đ During times of fearâelections, wars, economic slowdownsâwhen most people are selling or staying on the sidelines, these investors do the opposite. They see uncertainty as opportunity.
They donât try to time the market perfectly. Instead, they gradually increase their investments when quality stocks are available at lower valuations. This strategy massively boosts their XIRR, because returns are calculated not just by profit, but also when and how money was deployed.
đ And when the market turns bullish again? They donât chase the hype. They either hold quietly and let compounding do its job or trim positions if valuations go overboard.
The key? These investors operate with conviction, not crowd psychology. They prepare when others panic. Thatâs what gives them the edge.

The odds change as our position in the cycles changes. If we donât change our investment stance as these things change, weâre being passive regarding cycles; in other words, weâre ignoring the chance to tilt the odds in our favor. But if we apply some insight regarding cycles, we can increase our bets and place them on more aggressive investments when the odds are in our favor, and we can take money off the table and increase our defensiveness when the odds are against us.

Got reminded of this quote đ
I could end the deficit in 5 minutes. You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP all sitting members of congress are ineligible for reelection.
