A woman constable posted at Faraskhana Police Station was suspended in February 2026 over allegations that she returned a minor trafficking victim to her exploiters instead of initiating a rescue.

Incident Details:
A Bangladeshi woman, trafficked into India in 2023 at the age of 15, approached the police station seeking protection from forced prostitution in Pune’s Budhwar Peth area.

However, instead of registering a rescue case, the woman constable — identified as Manisha Pukale — allegedly took the victim to a police outpost and later handed her back to the brothel operator after suspected discussions.

Preliminary inquiries suggest the constable may have accepted a bribe from brothel operators to suppress details regarding the victim’s illegal stay and forced involvement in the sex trade.

Official Action:
Deputy Commissioner of Police Hrishikesh Rawale issued suspension orders against Constable Pukale on grounds of serious negligence and misconduct.

Based on the victim’s subsequent statement, a case has been registered at Faraskhana Police Station against eight individuals, including the brothel owner and agents involved in the trafficking network.

City-Wide Crackdown:
Following public outrage, Pune Police conducted a massive 10-hour combing operation in Budhwar Peth on February 10, deploying over 500 personnel. Several minor girls were rescued, and multiple illegal residents were detained.

The incident has sparked serious concerns over the handling of trafficking victims and accountability within the police force.

The book “Pawan Kalyan Hathao… Politics Bachao” had once triggered a major political storm in the then united Andhra Pradesh. Now, its author, Boggula Srinivas, has died under suspicious circumstances in a road accident in Khammam district.

Srinivas had written the controversial book during the 2014 general elections, strongly opposing the political entry of Pawan Kalyan. In the book, he criticised Pawan, stating that he was not a real leader but merely a “reel Bengal Tiger.” The publication sparked intense debate at the time, and Srinivas was even arrested amid the controversy.

On Saturday morning, the car in which Srinivas was travelling reportedly plunged into the Paleru reservoir at Kusumanchi. Locals said he was seated in the back seat and drowned. The driver, however, managed to escape and allegedly fled the spot, raising suspicions over the incident.

Police have registered a case of suspicious death and launched a search operation for the driver. An investigation is underway.

The Telangana government had earlier published not only his controversial book but also several of his articles on Jnanpith awardee Ravuri Bharadwaja.

Friends and former classmates of Srinivas have expressed deep grief and are demanding a thorough probe into his death.

A bedridden woman, Pushpalatha, was allegedly suffocated to death by her own daughter Suchitra on the night of February 11. The family initially claimed she died of a heart attack and was preparing for cremation, but locals alerted police.

During investigation, police found that Pushpalatha was allegedly killed with a pillow while she was asleep. Blood stains were found on her face. Suchitra reportedly told police that an astrologer had claimed her father Babu Nayak’s death was due to black magic by Pushpalatha and warned that her own life was in danger.

Police are also probing a financial angle, suspecting a dispute over lakhs received from a recent land sale. The accused allegedly shifted the body from Srinagar to Anupanahalli in the early hours, planning a quiet cremation.

Suchitra and her husband Suresh have been arrested by Kyaatsandra police. Further probe is underway.
