π Tonight we are bringing our bees down from the heather moors π
When itβs daylight theyβre constantly flying in and out of the hive. If we moved them then, many would get lost trying to return to a hive thatβs no longer there.
By waiting until night, all the bees are safely back inside the hive. This means we can close them up, transport them stress-free, and settle them into their new spot ready for the next season. π
It might look a bit weird seeing us moving hives by torchlight, but itβs the best way for the bees and for us π¦
Today at Herd & Hive, weβve been busy giving our beehives their winter oxalic acid treatment! This method is vital for controlling varroa mites, which can be a major threat to the health of our bees.
β¨ Why is this important?
Protects our colonies: Varroa mites can weaken bees, making them more susceptible to diseases.
Non-invasive and effective: Oxalic acid is a natural treatment that helps keep the hive healthy during the winter months without disrupting the bees.
Healthy bees = better honey: Happy, thriving bees mean we can continue to produce the high-quality honey you love!
Caring for our bees is at the heart of what we do, and treatments like this help us ensure our colonies are strong and ready to flourish when spring arrives. ππ
