We Are Bridgeway Academy Ambassadors!!
We are excited to announce that we partnered with Bridgeway Academy to be ambassadors this year.
Many of you know that I started homeschooling Des when he "exited" from the school system here in kindergarten. I homeschooled him for two years and then sent him back to the school for grades second through fifth when COVID-19 hit. We quickly realized how far behind he was and pulled him out of the school.
We have been homeschooling him since then, and he is now a sophomore in high school. This year, we also decided to pull River from the school system and homeschool her.
This was the best decision we could have ever made for them. I am so proud of them, and Bridgeway Academy made it all possible.
They are easy to work with and take all the guesswork from homeschooling. We can choose and individualize our curriculum based on our beliefs and hectic schedules. They also have an option for record-keeping, which significantly helps us.
If interested, please message me and review the attached information sheet, including our discount code.
Very best of luck,
Jamie Chapman

And now, I am a Published Author!!!!
www.practical-sailor.com/living-aboard/how-to-homeβ¦
I started homeschooling Des when the Saudi Aramco School "exited" him from their school system at five years old. It was heartbreaking to hear people who were considered experts and had only known my kid for a few months tell me that his IQ was 70 and that he was believed to be mentally disabled.
The school's vice principal looked me dead in the eye and told me he would never catch up to his peers academically. And for that reason, they didn't want to educate him at their school. They said they didn't have the resources or professional staff to "deal" with him.
They gave us two options: leave the country or send him to a private school elsewhere. But that wasn't good enough for me. I pulled up my big girl pants and homeschooled him. He was a rock star! He finished kindergarten and first grade in one year. He was back on track, so we had him readmitted to the school for second grade.
When Covid hit the middle of his fifth-grade year, we realized he was severely behind again. So, I did what I needed to do and started homeschooling again.
Des is almost done with ninth grade and is crushing it. I am so proud of the young adult he has become. He may not be the most mature kid, but he is brilliant, responsible, and kind.
So, what does all of this do with becoming a published author? Joel and I watch several sailing YouTube channels. One of our regulars is Lady K Sailing. On this particular episode, Tim talked about how he was looking for writers for Practical Sailor Magazine. He wanted experts in engines, sailing, etc., but I thought he was missing a significant area for sailors and future cruisers like us: boat schooling.
I emailed him and let him know that I thought this was an important subject that the magazine should consider, and to my surprise, he agreed! He asked me to put together a string of articles and possible future article ideas that he and his team could review. So I got to work.
After several revisions and emails over the next several weeks, we finally had a final draft for their following publication.
You have to subscribe to their magazine to read the article, but I have it up for free on our Patreon page: Patreon.com/theclife. Please consider supporting us and becoming a member! We can only do this with you!
I hope you enjoy it! Please let me know what you think. Is there something I need to cover in future articles? Do you homeschool or boatschool? What challenges do you face?
