Happy Lunar New Year! ❤️🦄 새해복 많이 받으세요! I went on a whole journey for this illustration, an homage to The Unicorn in Captivity, but with elements from Minhwa 민화 and using traditional Korean paints. This was so much fun and I may have a slightly unhinged art vlog for the entirety of the process... :)

There'll be a video this weekend, BUT ALSO: I finally started working on the next Silmarillion inspired illustration! Here, I'm sketching Lúthien and the extended cast of characters populating the scene, and you wouldn't believe how excited I am to start painting! 💙
Do you have a favorite story in the Silmarillion, or a character from The Lord of the Rings?

In this illustration, I'll be showing the scene of Lúthien pleading to Mandos to return Beren to her, and she'll give up her elven immortality. There will be deep shadows and ethereal light, and I hope I can do the idea justice!

I just wanted to say thank you because you're all wonderful - all the well-wishes after I mentioned my insomnia lately are so kind. 💚 I got a full night's sleep and relaxed a bit with more peaceful painting sessions. And when I say 'peaceful', I mean it! Making that extra effort to light a candle, bring out a warm blanket to huddle under, and choosing motifs that let me get lost in them...
Self-care is important, and I hope that no matter where in the world you are and what tough times you're living in (certainly a lot of options going around!), you find those little moments to recharge. Feel yourself hugged!

How are we already in mid-January? I hope you've been well ❤️ I'd posted my art plans and goals for the year here https://youtu.be/7iGhbjDATck and so far, I feel like I'm sticking to the most important one: Book illustration!

I'm working on multiple book art commissions (two are right now on my easel, but more to come!) and also FINALLY on Luthien in the Halls of Mandos, for my own portfolio (and happiness).
