Carnival night horror: Woman reports gang rape after party
According to reports, the woman attended the Miami Beach party at O2 Park. After the event concluded, she reportedly left with three men.
Investigators said she was later taken to a location in the Aranguez area, where she alleges she was gang raped.
Hours later, the woman was found along the eastbound lane of the Churchill Roosevelt Highway near the Aranguez overpass. When officers arrived, she was dressed in a red short-sleeved T-shirt with black netted sleeves and an adult diaper.
A passerby assisted her in getting medical attention at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex. Medical personnel described her as incoherent and drifting in and out of consciousness at the time of admission.
Police have since launched an intensive investigation. Officers are seeking to obtain CCTV footage from the area where she was reportedly taken, as well as from surrounding locations. The NED Crime Scene Investigation Unit has also been called in to assist.

Beckles fires back at alexander after couva execution leaves toddler traumatised
Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles has fired back at Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander, accusing him of attempting to deflect from his responsibilities by making what she described as “ridiculous and unfounded” claims that she supports crime.
The sharp exchange comes in the aftermath of the execution-style killings of DeVaughan Toussaint and his common-law wife Amelia Hernandez, who were gunned down on Friday, February 13, at Jade Park, Couva — in the presence of Hernandez’s three-year-old daughter.
According to reports, when gunfire erupted, Hernandez tried desperately to take her child to safety. In the chaos, she tripped and fell and was shot in the head. The toddler survived but witnessed the horrific attack that claimed both her parents.
The double murder sent shockwaves across the country and reignited fierce debate over crime legislation, particularly the Government’s proposed ZOSO Bill.
In comments made following the killings, Alexander criticized Beckles, the Opposition, and Independent Senators for refusing to support the legislation. He suggested that failure to back the bill amounted to siding with criminal elements and standing in the way of law enforcement’s efforts to curb violent crime.
But Beckles rejected that assertion outright.
She said Alexander “would do well to focus more intently on the responsibilities of his office rather than taking time to advance childish attempts at deflection.” She added that labeling legitimate parliamentary concerns as support for criminality is an embarrassing attempt to score political points at a time when serious leadership is required.
Beckles stressed that her foremost concern remains the well-being of the three-year-old child who witnessed her parents’ murder.
“Their trauma and well-being must be at the centre of our national response,” she said, arguing that the focus should be on protecting children and communities rather than engaging in political attacks.
The Opposition Leader maintained that since April 28, her side has supported several pieces of Government legislation, while objecting to others they deemed rushed, incoherent, or irresponsible.
She reiterated that a responsible Opposition must support good laws but also scrutinize those that raise constitutional or practical concerns.
Beckles also criticized what she described as the Government’s reactive approach to crime fighting.
She called for proactive strategies, including intelligence-driven policing, improved homicide detection rates, and stronger international partnerships aimed at dismantling organized criminal networks.
She insisted that strengthening public safety must go hand in hand with protecting the constitutional rights and freedoms of law-abiding citizens.
“Personal attacks on my character will not remove this responsibility from his shoulders, nor will they improve our national security framework,” Beckles stated, adding that she remains prepared to engage in respectful, substantive discussions focused on meaningful solutions.
As political tensions mount, the tragedy at Jade Park stands as a grim reminder of the human cost of violent crime — and the urgent demand from citizens for effective action over partisan confrontation.

Midnight inferno claims life of elderly Moruga woman living alone
A 75-year-old Moruga pensioner perished early Saturday morning after a fast-moving fire destroyed her Preau Village home, leaving neighbours in shock and mourning.
Bernadette Guerrero’s body was discovered shortly after firefighters gained entry to the burning structure just after midnight. Authorities believe she may have succumbed to smoke inhalation. An autopsy is expected to determine the exact cause of death.
Residents said the blaze erupted sometime around midnight, lighting up the quiet community and sending plumes of smoke into the night sky.
Police were alerted at approximately 12.10 am, and firefighters from the Mon Repos Fire Station responded, as there is no longer an operational station in Princes Town. By the time emergency crews arrived, the house was already engulfed.
Fire officers forced their way through the front door and conducted a search. Initial checks of the bedroom offered a brief sense of hope, but that quickly faded when Guerrero’s lifeless body was found in an upstairs bathroom
Guerrero, who had been living alone since her husband’s death, was described by residents as gentle, reserved and kind. Moore, who said he had known her since childhood, remembered her as someone who kept largely to herself but was always pleasant.
She had spent several years living in the United States before returning home. In recent years, neighbours often saw her taking solitary walks—sometimes even at night—or sitting quietly on her porch greeting passers-by with a warm smile.
Some residents reported seeing sparks coming from a nearby utility pole and the electrical line connected to the house shortly before the fire started. Investigators are examining whether an electrical fault may have contributed to the blaze.
Police and fire officials continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“Privilege on Parade”
What the country witnessed last night was not about what was said, where it was said or the booing.
In 10 short months, Trinidad and Tobago has grown accustomed to the arrogance and endless political babble that spills from the mouths of those in office.
Nothing about that shocked anyone.
What people saw simply confirmed what they have been feeling for months, how completely out of touch this Government has become.
While families are stretching groceries, choosing between rent and electricity bills and fighting to keep their small businesses alive, some Ministers are making the Carnival fete circuit like celebrities on tour. Bold, carefree and visibly detached from the hardship unfolding across the country.
As they move from fete to fete, families are being made to pay more. More in taxes, more in surcharges, more in fees and fines, more for housing, fuel and utilities and more every single time they walk into the grocery.
That is what gives this moment its sting.
The issue is not the fete, nor any spectacle attached to it. The issue is the widening disconnect between those in power and the people. Between those who make decisions in comfort and those who absorb the consequences in their daily lives.
