Generations ruled and ruined by alcohol.

That line from Jamie Lee Curtis stopped me in my tracks.

Her honesty about breaking that cycle — and choosing sobriety as her legacy — hit home.

Here's what we are NOT doing to ourselves when we are trying to cut back drinking or remove it from our life completely.

We aren't making grand announcements, saying things like "I am never drinking again". That puts our brain into panic mode, and you'll be served up all the examples of WHY we can't make this work, and you'll sabotage yourself before you even begin.

Instead we are going to take one day at a time. And soon, all of those collected days will combine and you'll begin to reflect on your relationship with alcohol and ask yourself if you want to truly take it into the next season of your life.

We also aren't going to be hard on ourselves if we slip up. It's a slip up. It's not the be all and end all of the experience. It's an opportunity to reflect, and put some tools in place to help you deal with a trigger or a specific situation you faced differently next time. Don't kick yourself when you're down, choose the next day and begin again. No one is keeping tally!

And finally... we're going to be very gentle with ourselves. Honestly, it's a journey for a reason... it takes time to grow, learn and modify what we have been doing and we need to give ourselves grace to do that in a way that is self supportive and encouraging. You've got this. Just take it one day at a time.

💭 If you’re finding it hard to remove alcohol from your life, it’s not you. It’s these three things:

1. Your brain’s been rewired.
Alcohol literally changes how your brain works. It messes with your dopamine and reward systems, so over time your brain starts to rely on it to feel “normal.” When you stop drinking, you’re not just breaking a habit, you’re retraining your brain.

2. It’s everywhere.
Alcohol is the only drug we have to explain not taking. It’s at birthdays, brunches, celebrations, and commiserations. You’re not weak for finding it hard, you’re just surrounded by it in a world that tells you it’s the key to connection.

3. You were taught to cope with it.
For most of us, alcohol was the tool for stress, sadness, and celebration. It’s what we were shown. Learning how to self-soothe and regulate without it isn’t failure. It’s healing.

If it feels hard, it’s because you’re undoing years of conditioning.
You’re not broken — you’re breaking patterns, healing, and coming home to yourself.

Follow The Sober High — we’re here to change the way you see alcohol and guide you as you rewrite your story with it.

Choosing to live a life #alcoholfree is one of the most rebellious things you can do and you can't convince me other.

We've been conditioned as a society that alcohol is how we celebrate, commiserate, take the edge of, kick back, relax and connect.

We are using a drug to sidestep living an authentic life.

Word on the street is that #sober is the new high. It's no wonder Gen Z is breaking free from drinking culture. A change is coming. If you're tired of waking up with shame and brain fog. You're not alone.

It’s wild that #alcohol is the ONLY drug that if you don’t take it you’re asked why not. #sobriety #sobercurious #sober

3 years ago I stopped drinking. I’d been flirting with the idea of a while… I was getting sick of myself honestly. The way I would feel the next day and the levels to which I would drink to numb out a part of myself I didn’t want to face. I would drink until I was anaesthetised.

Looking back, I don’t think I really understood the gift I was giving myself when I just cut alcohol off completely. What started off as just having a break, became a complete awakening.

At the start of this year, something shifted.

I’d reached a point in my career that most people would consider “success.” On paper, it looked perfect; the kind of job title that makes others nod in approval. But inside, I felt… off. Like I was walking the wrong road, in the wrong shoes, toward a destination I didn’t even want.

Everything I was doing felt like I was holding myself back from something, though I couldn’t quite name what that was. So I started digging. A bit of soul searching (yes, the cliché kind… but it works). I tried to trace back to the moments when I’d felt most at peace, most me.

Since 2022, peace has been my compass. I’ve been quietly chasing it, and when something hasn’t felt aligned, I’ve had the courage to walk away.

And that’s when it clicked: I didn’t want to pursue Business anymore.

When I looked back, the times I’d felt truly proud weren’t tied to profit margins or career milestones… they were moments when I was helping others. That’s when I felt alive, aligned, and deeply connected to myself.

So, in February 2025, I did something that scared me and thrilled me at the same time. I quit my Business degree halfway through and switched to Psychology. I stepped down from my role as General Manager of a multimillion-dollar company and stepped into uncertainty, purpose, and something that finally felt right.

I want to help people break cycles, find freedom, and build a life that actually feels like theirs. I want to be a sobriety coach and addiction advocate.

And so… I’m starting.

I’ve been putting this off for weeks, trying to make it perfect. But perfection is just another form of procrastination. I’m done waiting.

It’s time.

Welcome to The Sober High.
Let’s begin.

That racing heart. That knot in your stomach. That dread that creeps in the morning after.

It’s not “just in your head.”

Alcohol literally spikes your cortisol (stress hormone) — and leaves your brain chemistry struggling to stabilise.
Once you see this, you can’t unsee it.
