🏨 English Lesson: How to Check In at a Hotel
Traveling soon? Checking into a hotel can be nerve-wracking if you don’t know the right phrases. Today we are breaking down the essential vocabulary and etiquette for a smooth arrival!
🧳✈️
1️⃣ The Arrival & Reservation
When you arrive at the front desk, use this standard phrase:
🗣️ “I have a reservation under the name of [Your Name].”
"Under the name of" means the booking was made using that specific name.
2️⃣ Handing Over Documents
When the receptionist asks for your ID or passport, or when you hand back a form:
🗣️ “Here you go.”
This is the polite way to say "Here it is" when giving something to someone physically.
3️⃣ Paperwork Phrasal Verb
The receptionist will ask you to complete a document.
🗣️ “Could you please fill out this registration form?”
Fill out = To write the necessary information in the empty spaces of a document.
4️⃣ Asking Important Questions
Don’t forget to ask about amenities! Use polite structures like "What time is..." or "Is there..."
☕ Breakfast: “What time is breakfast served?” (Served = provided/available).
🛗 The Lift: “Where is the elevator?” (Note: US = Elevator, UK = Lift).
📶 Internet: “Is there Wi-Fi in the room?”
5️⃣ Directions & Location
If the receptionist says:
🗣️ “It is just around the corner.”
This means it is very close or immediately after the turn.
6️⃣ Vocabulary Checklist 📝
Key Card: The plastic card used to open your door.
Dialing: Pressing the buttons on a phone (e.g., "Dial 0 for reception").
Pleasant stay: A formal way to say "have a good time."
💡 Pro Tip for Politeness:
Always use “Could I please…” or “Would you…” instead of “I want.”
Example: “Could I please see your ID?” is much softer than “Give me your ID.”
❓ Question for you:
When you travel, what is the first thing you check in your hotel room? The view, the Wi-Fi, or the bed? Let me know in the comments! 👇

📝 LESSON NOTE: HOW TO STAY MOTIVATED 🔥
Are you learning English but feeling tired? Do you feel like your "fire" is very small? Today’s lesson is all about finding your motivation again!
Here are 7 Tips to Stay Motivated from Mr. Speaker English:
1️⃣ Know Your "Why"
Motivation is your reason. Why are you learning?
To travel?
To get a better job?
To make new friends?
Remember your "Why" when things get hard.
2️⃣ Set Small Goals (Baby Steps) 👣
Don't look at the top of the mountain; look at the next step. A big goal is scary. A small goal is easy!
Example: Instead of "I will be fluent," say "I will learn one new word today."
3️⃣ Celebrate Your Wins 🎉
When you finish a small goal, celebrate!
Tell yourself: "Good job!"
Share your success with a friend.
Eat a piece of chocolate! 🍫
Being happy while learning helps you learn faster.
4️⃣ Find a Study Friend 🤝
Learning alone can be lonely. Find a partner to practice with. You can ask questions and encourage each other.
Tip: On days you feel lazy, your friend can help you start!
5️⃣ Make it Fun! 🎮
Don't just use textbooks. Connect English to your hobbies.
Like cooking? Read a recipe in English. 🍰
Like gaming? Change the game language to English. 🕹️
Like music? Listen to English songs. 🎵
6️⃣ Inspiration & Faith 🙏
When you feel weak, remember that you are not alone.
Joshua 1:9: "Be strong and courageous... for the Lord your God will be with you."
Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Him who gives me strength."
Matthew 19:26: "With God all things are possible."
Use hope and faith to give you courage.
7️⃣ It’s Okay to Rest 😴
If you have a bad day, don't quit. Just pause.
Be kind to yourself.
Rest today, and press "Play" again tomorrow.
Learning is a journey, not a race.
