Hello, everyone! It's me! Frostbyte Freeman! Sorry about the lack of Minecraft-related videos last month, by the way. I feel compelled to apologize both because the block game is still ostensibly what this channel is about— and also because it's one hundred percent going to happen again this month, too. The only two Minecraft-related videos I have fully scripted are shaping up to be around the hour-long mark, and neither of them are even the third Whitepine video yet. Plus, those are both shaping up to be technically complicated affairs, too. I'd still like to have those beta-read before beginning production, so it'll be a bit, even though I would really like to get cracking. The only videos I've got at the moment that are of a more manageable size are the ones that aren't about Minecraft, but I'm worried about alienating what (if any) consistent viewership I have. I know I ask this question a lot, but what exactly is it that you want to see from the Freeman?
Anyways, just like last year, this year's Valentine's Day video is going to be a weird one, so adjust your expectations accordingly. Would really hate for it to snap the streak I'm on— aside from the Holiday Special bombing, I feel like the Wes video popping off made January a halfway decent month for the channel. Take care, and see you Saturday (hopefully)!
Ohhhhh. I see now. Thank you, YouTube. So all I need to do is Whitepine. Not make my own original machinima like Whitepine, or theories about Whitepine. I just need to do Whitepine. It's the only thing my audience watches. I just need to do Whitepine. It all makes sense now.
Ho, ho, ho, everyone! Frostbyte Freeman here, with the warmest season’s greetings that my cold, unbeating heart can possibly muster! Sorry for the lack of uploads of late— you know the score with me already, though, that’s nothing new! Par for the course with this channel.
The end of every year is always a time for introspection, at least for me… a time to reflect on the successes and failings that came before in preparation for another ever-elusive “fresh start” ahead. What makes a year a success? What makes a year a failure? In my case, it more or less comes down to when you start measuring that year. If you start keeping score from August 2024 to August 2025, the first “year” that I’ve been back and making videos for this channel again, then this new era of Frostbyte Freeman has been a categorical success. Some of my most popular and personally significant videos of all time have been released over that span! If you start measuring that year on January 1st, 2025, though, the metrics get a little less encouraging. This year, I’ve still released a handful of videos I’m proud of, but they seldom ever crack 10K; with each passing upload, it’s looking more and more like that initial post-comeback bump was nothing but a fluke.
Ah well! I bought the ticket, now I’ve got to ride the ride. Posting an esoteric and unpredictable smorgasbord of stuff that alienates any semblance of a consistent audience obviously makes my videos algorithmically unpalatable. I tell myself it doesn’t matter, that at this point I’m only doing this for love of the game, but it still stings a little. I *do* still want to make stuff you all want to watch, after all, but it feels like I’m not really a part of any community. This channel is a beast of no nation, wandering abroad for bread, asking— “where is it?” and never learning. That sort of fumbling in the dark for some semblance of meaning or identity can’t possibly be fun for you all to watch.
Hopefully, I’ll have at least one more video to show for my efforts before this sorry year is through— the plan is to have something small done by New Year’s Eve, so we’ll see if I can get it done in time and actually follow through with a promise for once in my miserable, misbegotten life. I’m Frostbyte Freeman, and I’d like to wish a very Merry Christmas to those of you who celebrate! I hope the gifts you got today were for the person you really are, and not the version of you that others have in their heads… and even if not, I hope you had the gift of good company at least. Until next time, stay frosty!
Hello, everyone! Frostbyte Freeman here with some exciting news! And no, before you ask, it isn't a new video (yet)... except it kind of is!
As you may or may not know, since I've only ever alluded to it briefly in the past, I was a contributor to the Minecraft Metatext Zine, a community collaboration dedicated to metatextual analysis of Minecraft RP's, SMP's, and machinima. Given carte blanche to select the subject of my essay, I chose to write about— what else— Whitepine, because of course I did (but this time is totally different, I swear)! The piece I submitted, "An Endless Now," analyzes Ivory's cinematic shorthand and her style as a filmmaker to better understand how the series' melancholic atmosphere and thorny meta-narrative were constructed. This is the sort of stuff I've always wanted to talk about with regards to Whitepine, but I could never find space for it in between the discussions of the main series murder mystery and the hidden video ARG everyone probably had way more interest in. If you're interested in reading my sophomoric attempt at formal film analysis (the sort of real sicko stuff that got left on the cutting room floor of my two hour-long Whitepine videos), you can check out the finished zine on the MCYT Metazine Tumblr! My essay is located at the very back of the book, so while you're flipping through the (virtual) pages, feel free to take a look at all the other truly excellent essay submissions, as well as their corresponding illustrated cover pages! I also did an interview about the essay-writing process for the MCYT Metazine YouTube channel, and recorded an audiobook version of my finished piece to boot. So yes, technically, this sort-of-kind-of-not-really counts as a new Frostbyte Freeman video. Hooray! Links to the MCYT Metazine pages mentioned previously will be appended to the bottom of this community tab post.
Aside from that, though, there's sadly not much to report. New Frostbyte Freeman Content™ for this channel Soon-Ish™, hopefully— the video I'm working on right now is turning out to be way longer than I thought, and might end up somewhere in the hour-long range. The winter season *is* usually when I wind up putting out my most high-effort stuff, though, if last year's frankly insane run is anything to go by. Hopefully, I'll have something to show for my absence soon. Take care, and until next time, stay frosty!
Hello, everyone! It's me! Frostbyte Freeman, back with more updates and less videos!
First, a general health update... I was out of commission for a while longer than I expected. Not because of the surgery itself, though— in fact, I was downgraded from a double jaw surgery to just a single since my surgeon found a way to make it work, and it ended up working pretty well. Rather, in the aftermath of the procedure, I experienced a very unusual rash of complications that had me in and out of the hospital, and had everyone in the surgical team in various stages of concerned, baffled, and terrified. Luckily, my mouth is in a really good place, I've stopped throwing up blood constantly, and I can now eat semi-solid food again! I never want to see another protein drink for as long as I live. Unfortunately, I still don't think I'm in a place where I can start recording again just yet (my words are the tiniest bit slurred), but now that I'm past the worst of my complications, I feel well enough to start editing the three scripts I already recorded and banked prior to the procedure. Hopefully, by the time all three of those videos are done and released, I'll be basically back in good working order, and we can pick up seamlessly from there without missing a beat! Hooray!
Second, a smaller, channel-related update. I am pleased (and a bit surprised) to announce that both of my Whitepine theory videos now have subtitles in Chinese, thanks to @samelien-j8c here on YouTube! They also did the official translated subtitles for Whitepine itself, so go ahead and check their work out if you feel so inclined!
Third, and finally, I have a question I would like to pose to all of you. I've had a couple people suggest I should make a Discord server for the channel, and honestly, my thoughts have been a bit mixed on the matter. My activity on Discord is best described as sporadic (at best), and I wouldn't want to make a server that serves no purpose, falls inactive, or is rendered redundant by my presence in other topic or friend group-specific servers. Figured I would call an emergency session in the court of public opinion and throw the question back out to all of you. Let me know what you all think by either participating in the poll or sounding off in the comments down below!
That'll do it for this community tab post. Until next time, stay frosty!
Hey, everyone. Frostbyte Freeman here with some mildly unfortunate news.
This time tomorrow, I will be undergoing corrective surgery to address an aberration in the alignment of my jaw. Obviously, due to the fact that my mouth will be temporarily detached from my skull and subsequently wired shut, I will be unable to record any new videos for a while. My hope was to write a mountain of scripts and then record them in advance so I could get right back to editing after I've recovered a bit health-wise but before I've recovered enough to regain full functionality in my mouth. Unfortunately, I only managed to complete three video scripts— and since the only time I had to record the audio for them amidst everything else going on in my life was in a single bulk session, my voice was so shot and worn out by the third one that I might have to scrap it entirely (unless I' decide that the almost whisper-like quality works for the specific subject matter, but that feels like it would just be me justifying my own laziness and desperation).
Anyways, the point is that (once again) there won't be any new Frostbyte Freeman "Films" for a while. But hey, at least I gave you all an explanation this time before disappearing off the face of the earth on hiatus, right?
Am I scared? Yeah, honestly, a little. On the one hand, I've been told repeatedly that this is a "good" surgery (whatever that even means, anyways), and I know that in the fullness of time it'll improve my quality of life and prevent further damage to my teeth, mouth, and face. Incidentally, it'll also remove that tiny drag I have when saying the letter "s" or other such soft consonants, which you may not have noticed but I definitely have after editing hours of my own highly insufferable voice. On the other hand, though, I've also been told it's going to be pretty rough for a little while. This is something that needs to be done. I know that much. But there's a lot of things I wish I could have changed from the start about both the body that I was given and the choices I've made with it. It feels foolish to be worried about that now, and I know I'm very fortunate that I'm still in a position where I can actually address this sort of issue; I know that too. It feels stupid to complain. But the only time I really talk anymore is to all of you on the other side of the screen. Maybe I'm worried about losing that.
Well, I've thoroughly exhausted all my candor and melodrama. You have my sincerest apologies for not preparing better for this, for not uploading more consistently while I still had the time and ability to do so, for not stockpiling enough of that sweet, sweet content in advance, and for not telling you sooner. I've been assured that the risk of permanent nerve damage is, if not negligible, at least still somewhat manageable. I feel as if I've failed you somehow as a Content Creator™, but then again, I was never very good at being that anyways. This will probably be the last you'll hear from me for a little while. All I can say to you in closing is: I'm sorry. Truly, deeply, profusely sorry.
I'm Frostbyte Freeman, and until next time... whenever that may be... stay frosty.
Hello, everyone! It’s me, Frostbyte Freeman! Remember when I used to upload videos?
If you like my long, rambling analyses of Whitepine, and you’re hungry for more similarly tangential dissections of the show (or breathless, long-winded monologues nestled in hard-boiled detective noirs), the third episode of ShadowLord782's Solving Whitepine drops tomorrow at 1 P.M. CST! I know as much as you do, but I’m told it’s a real doozy. Check it out if you feel so inclined!
Happy April Fool’s Day, everyone. Sorry to break it to you, but I am not actually free, nor am I a man. In fact, I don’t even have frostbite, and I've never made so much as a single "film." I am a fraud on every conceivable level. I know you must surely be disappointed in me for betraying your hard-earned trust, and I will strive to learn, grow, and improve myself in the future.
Also, the reason I haven't uploaded anything in ages is because in between production of other, more conventional video ideas, I've been working tirelessly to complete an experimental Minecraft short film about a single, solitary block of white concrete. Obviously, this process has been incredibly challenging, as you might well expect. Thank you all for sticking with me through this trying stage of the creative process. I may have naught to show for it now, but I promise, my labor will soon bear fruit, and you shall all be nourished with the sweet, sweet slop of my Content™— until then, I remain Frostbyte Freeman as always! Stay frosty!
