Chandigarh’s first Sainik School is now a step away from reality, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday assuring approval for setting up the prestigious institution in the city.
The assurance was given to Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, who called on the Union Minister in New Delhi and strongly pitched for the proposal. Kataria apprised him that establishing a Sainik School in Chandigarh would significantly strengthen discipline, leadership qualities and the spirit of national service among the youth.

Rural Haryanvis are more Internet savvy than their counterparts in Punjab. According to the official data of the Union Ministry of State for Communications and Rural Development, the Internet penetration in rural Haryana is pegged at 1.11 crore connections as compared to rural Punjab’s 96 lakh — a significant difference of 15 lakh connections as on March 1, 2025.

Facing growing threats from small drones and unmanned aerial systems (UAS) that are difficult to detect by conventional radars, the Army is urgently seeking ‘drone catchers’ that are automated drones equipped with nets to ensnare or destroy hostile machines.
“The air threat from low radar cross-section drone/UAS employed individually or as a swarm has grown exponentially. Therefore, there is an urgent requirement of developing and procuring suitable weapon systems for countering and neutralising this emerging threat,” a request for information issued by the Ministry of Defence states.

The 'white-collar' terror module recently busted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police indicates that the doctors arrested in the case had been radicalised since 2016 and formed a new terror organisation named "Ansar Interim" to carry out subversive activities in the Union Territory as well as in the hinterland, officials said on Sunday.
The case, which is now being probed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), also brings to light that Dr Umer-un Nabi -- the man behind the wheel of the explosive-laden car that exploded outside the Red Fort on November 10, killing over a dozen people -- had unsuccessfully attempted to join terror groups in 2016 and 2018, they said.
