The U.S. Air Force and the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) selected four companies in June of this year to participate in the development of the Enterprise Test Vehicle (ETV), a program aimed at developing a low-cost, mass-deployable, medium- and long-range air-launched cruise missile.

The U.S. military is equipped with three types of air-launched cruise missiles: JASSM-ER, LRASM, and JSM. Although they have excellent performance, the price is expensive, with a unit price of 1 million to 4 million U.S. dollars. The U.S. military hopes to equip a large number of cruise missiles at a low price. The ETV program for the new munitions sets the maximum range of 575 miles, they do not need to fly supersonic, and the procurement of the unit price is less than 150,000 U.S. dollars.

On September 12, Anduril disclosed a model of its new low-cost cruise missile Barracuda-M family. The Barracuda-M are a modular design with low cost, easy to operate, scalable production, and other features, will be mainly used for ground, sea, and other precision strike missions, able to perform direct attack, long-range attack, and defense zone attack missions. The Barracuda-M comes in three variants: Barracuda-100, Barracuda-250, and Barracuda-500.

As Ukraine advances into Russia's Kursk region, demonstrating significant progress after NATO lifted restrictions on weapon use, the U.S. government is currently exploring the possibility of equipping Ukraine's F-16s with the AGM-158 JASSM, the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile.

It is unclear where Russia's "red line" truly lies. Despite the Kremlin's stern warnings against it, various weapons have already been supplied to Ukraine. Additionally, the profits from frozen Russian sovereign assets have been allocated to Ukraine. Even as Ukraine "invades" Russian territory, the Kremlin has not reacted drastically. This suggests that if the West allows Ukraine to strike deep within Russian territory using long-range missiles in the future, Russia might not respond dramatically either.

Compared to the Storm Shadow cruise missiles provided by the UK and France, JASSM is more advanced in design, has better stealth capabilities, and boasts a longer range. JASSM uses design features and stealth materials to significantly reduce the missile's radar and infrared signature. Its sharp nose cone design deflects radar energy away from the front, preventing radar systems from detecting reflected signals, resulting in excellent forward stealth performance. The missile body features a stealth-optimized triangular cross-section and embedded air intakes. JASSM also extensively uses composite materials, further reducing the likelihood of radar detection.

U.S. Anti-Ship Missiles Go Fully Stealth

During the 2024 RIMPAC exercises, the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Fitzgerald has drawn attention to removing its Harpoon anti-ship missile launchers and installing the new NSM anti-ship missiles. the U.S. Navy's F/A-18F Super Hornet aircraft launched the AGM-158C-3 long-range anti-ship missile, hitting a target ship.

Both the NSM and the AGM-158C are subsonic stealth-designed anti-ship missiles. Their deployment signifies the U.S. Navy's shift to stealthy anti-ship missiles.

Precision Bombs: USA vs. Russia #guidedbomb #precisionbomb #bomb #jdam #gpsguid #sdb #glidebomb
The Russia-Ukraine war has continued for more than two years. The situation is constantly evolving. The Russian military has been using a large number of suicide drones and cruise missiles to exhaust Ukraine's expensive air defense missiles. As the threat from ground missiles has significantly reduced, the Russian air force has become more active in recent months. It frequently bombed Ukrainian positions and territories.

In the battles around Kharkiv, the Russian military started using guided glide bombs extensively. Since March, Russia has been dropping over 3,000 glide bombs per month on Ukrainian positions and residential areas. It has caused severe damage. #MASAMilitary

F-16 is Coming Ukrainian Forces are Preparing #f16 #f16fighter #ukrainerussiawar #russiaukrainewar

The Belgian government recently announced that it will provide 30 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine by 2028. However, the final decision will need to be made by the next government since Belgium will hold elections in June. According to public reports, Western countries have already committed to supplying Ukraine with 85 F-16s. It includes 24 from the Netherlands, 19 from Denmark, and 12 from Norway. And ten will be used as spare parts, in addition to Belgium's promised 30 jets.

So far, we have yet to see any official news indicating when Ukraine receive the F-16 fighter jets. However, reports suggest that Ukrainian ground crew have completed their training and returned home. Ukrainian pilots have finished their training in Arizona, USA, and returned to Europe for further training. If things go quickly, the first batch of six F-16 fighter jets will arrive in Ukraine by the end of June.

The United States already provided Ukraine with GBU-39 Small Diameter Bombs (SDB) and JDAM-ER guided bombs, which the F-16 and the Ukrainian Air Force have widely used. According to Ukrainian forces, the GBU-39 has strong anti-jamming capabilities with a hit rate of nearly 90%. Western countries also provided Ukraine with many AIM-120 medium-range air-to-air missiles and AGM-88 HARM anti-radiation missiles, which will become priority long-range strike weapons for the F-16.

Iran's Affinity for American Aircraft #iaf #f14 #f14tomcat #f4 #bell212 #military

The Iranian Air Force still uses F-14 Tomcats, F-4 Phantoms, F-5 Tigers, C-130 Hercules transport aircraft, P-3 Orion anti-submarine patrol aircraft, and CH-47 Chinook helicopters, all of which were acquired during the Pahlavi era and have been in service for over 40 years.

On May 19, An Iranian helicopter carrying President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, and other officials crashed in the fog-covered mountainous region of northwestern Iran, resulting in the deaths of all on board.

The helicopter that crashed in this accident was an American-made Bell 212, which was likely introduced before the Islamic Revolution in the late 1970s, making it over forty years old.

There are reasons why the Iranian Air Force favors American F-14s and F-4s. The F-14 Tomcat is regarded as one of the world's most beautiful aircraft and was once the mainstay of the US Navy. The F-4 Phantom II, a pinnacle of 1960s technology, is a versatile aircraft with higher production numbers than the F-16.

Fujian Aircraft Carrier Begins Sea Trials #fujian #aircraftcarrier #pla #j15 #EMALS

On May 1st, China's third aircraft carrier, the Fujian, commenced its maiden sea trials. The Fujian is the People's Liberation Army's (PLA) first catapult-equipped aircraft carrier, departing from the design philosophy of Soviet carriers and adopting a design concept similar to that of American carriers, featuring a flat flight deck and electromagnetic catapults.

The Fujian is the PLA's first aircraft carrier designed and built according to Western standards, differing significantly from the design concepts of its predecessors, the Liaoning and Shandong. After transforming former Soviet carriers into Liaoning China, it has managed to own three carriers in just 12 years.

Political rather than military considerations primarily drive China's urgency in constructing the Fujian. Controlling only the South China Sea and East China Sea would not require such luxurious equipment for the PLA. Xi Jinping's ambition will likely extend into the Pacific, the Indian Ocean, and even the Atlantic.

Are North Korean Missiles Terrifying? #kn23 #kn24 #kwasong11 #northkoreamissile #military
From December 2023 to February of this year, the Russian military reportedly launched at least nine ballistic missiles manufactured in North Korea, targeting Ukraine. The Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office announced it had obtained evidence indicating the use of North Korean-manufactured ballistic missiles by the Russian military during the attack on Kharkiv. These missiles are the enhanced versions of the KN-23 and KN-24.

The KN-23 and KN-24 missiles that Russia had purchased likely belong to the developmental models of the Hwasong-11 series. The Hwasong-11 is North Korea's most advanced solid-fuel short-range ballistic missile, designed to emulate Russia's Iskander-M missile, hence referred to by observers as the North Korean version of the "Iskander." "KN" is the NATO codename, while North Korea names its ballistic missiles after Hwasong and Nodong.
