Revolution of Ordinaries

What is the purpose?
God put us here with a purpose - the purpose to change the world with the good news of Jesus. This must be done in community. We are here to be part of that community - to bring together people who share the vision of disciples who make disciples who plant churches. This is about ordinary people being used by God in extraordinary ways. This is the priesthood of all believers in action!

How will we accomplish that?
Educate biblically - our actions must be grounded in scripture.
Train skills - Hands on training in skills that can change lives.
Connect - through the community tab, the comments, and social media

What will it look like?
Mobilizing everyday Christians.
Learning and being trained here to go out and put it into practice where you live.
The time to activate everyday believers to be world changers through the power of the Spirit is NOW!

Thanks for being here. I love and appreciate each and every one of you.

- Matt

The path forward will require love.

It did for Jesus and it does for us.

This is not love as the world defines love. The world defines love as "accept me for who I am" and that means that you have to give you stamp of approval to the choices they are making and not judge any of it. But that really isn't love. It isn't love to watch someone destroy themselves and hope you will co-sign their bad decisions.

Love will offer grace and truth to help someone move closer to who God made them to be. And that movement is not ours to make - it is theirs. We must be for people and that is not the same thing as being for all their decisions. I am not even for all of my own decisions much less everyone else's!

Traditional forms of church/denominations/building-centric/pastor-centric churches are like the KJV - not ideal but you can find Jesus there.

Revolution of Ordinaries

At one point in time I really thought the way our assembly was on Sunday was just like what they did in the early church. There are similarities but I just didn't have the eyes to see the differences...and there are some major differences! And some people don't like hearing that because they had to memorize a lot of random verses to justify the way we do it in most churches.

So here is a list of 10 things that are typically done today (many of them are pretty big things) that weren't really part of the early church mindset or practice.

My hope is that this helps you get the blinders off and read the New Testament fresh and then put into practice some changes that better reflect biblical practice in the assembly.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

The minister can't do all the work. The elders can't meet every need. Neither can the deacons. We all need to learn some skills so that the body of Christ can function in a healthy way. This helps us mature our faith, impact the community and be faithful to what God has told us to do in this world. The whole church body needs to function together!

Revolution of Ordinaries

When we read the Bible we move from understanding to committed application to sharing with others.

When we learn from God, we also need to learn to take some action (not every study requires this but many do). One of the most meaningful actions we can do is to share what we are learning with others.

This is part of our maturation in faith.

This is also why you see some people who have been in church their whole life and never grew up because they heard and heard and heard and heard and never lived or shared. They get stuck.

If you teach, teach to understand, live and share. Model that. Expect that. Set people up for that. People will remember this over lecture because action leads to seeing God work and that results in testimony. These are stories we remember rather than lectures we forget!
