Freedom Is Mine Official

Co-hosted by Fayida Jailler (founder of Freedom Is Mine) and Jean Campbell, join the British Museum Schools team, curators and experts to explore teaching and learning about African and African Diaspora history! The event is this Friday 20th October, at the British Museum.



Build subject knowledge and share best practice through talks, workshops and performances. The programme features keynote speaker Hakim Adi, Professor of the History of Africa and the African Diaspora at the University of Chichester.



Workshop themes include:

- Exploring creative routes into teaching African and African Diaspora history
- Poetry and storytelling performances
- Bringing African and African Diaspora histories into the classroom
- Teaching African kingdoms
- Reading the African pictorial archive at the British Museum
- Exploring a historical figure using craft and sensory storytelling
- Using food to explore the past and diaspora journeys
- Investigating objects and the appropriate use of language

There will be opportunities for reflection and discussion throughout the day.

Suitable for teachers (primary, secondary and trainee) and cultural/heritage professionals.
