✅ What it is ?

-96-km tidal estuary in Indus Delta, once called Ban Ganga.

- Marshy, uninhabited, ecologically fragile zone.


✅ Location :

- Lies on the India–Pakistan border.

- Separates Kutch region of Gujarat (India) from Sindh province (Pakistan).

- Opens into the Arabian Sea, directly affecting maritime boundaries and fishing zones.

✅ Features :
- Narrow, muddy, and shifting water channel, prone to tidal changes.

- Part of the Indus Delta wetlands, habitat for migratory birds and marine biodiversity.

Strategic importance : impacts demarcation of Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs) and continental shelf, linked to rights over fishing, oil, and gas exploration.

✅ Dispute :

- Origin: 1914 Bombay–Sindh resolution.

- Pakistan: boundary on eastern bank → whole creek theirs.

- India: boundary mid-channel (thalweg principle).

- Post-1947: Gujarat with India, Sindh with Pakistan → contested.

- 1968 tribunal settled Rann of Kutch, but Sir Creek unresolved.
