The Anxiety Guy

When you live with anxiety for a long time, your brain quietly starts using predictability as its main definition of safety. It stops asking “is this pleasant?” and starts asking “is this familiar?” That’s why the brain can cling to a known discomfort (tension, worry, scanning) over an unknown sensation, even if the unknown sensation is actually harmless or even part of healing.

“Unfamiliar” doesn’t mean dangerous. It simply means your nervous system doesn’t have a map for the experience yet. So when a new body sensation shows up, dizziness, DPDR, heaviness, quietness, even calm, the survival brain can interpret it as a potential threat because it can’t predict it. That’s not you being broken. That’s your protective system doing its job: orienting to the unknown.

A huge twist is that healing itself creates unfamiliar states. When adrenaline starts to drop, calm can feel flat or strange. When tension releases, it can feel like weakness. When perception recalibrates, dizziness can show up. If your mind labels these shifts as “something is wrong,” the body ramps up alarm. But if you allow them without threat meaning, the brain updates its map and realizes, “We’re safe here too.”

This is the deep point: suffering often comes less from the sensation and more from the meaning you attach to it. Each time you treat unfamiliar as unsafe, you train vigilance. Each time you meet unfamiliar with a steady, non-urgent response and keep living, you train safety. Over time, what was unfamiliar becomes familiar and what is familiar stops triggering the alarm.

The Anxiety Guy

I just released a new Health Anxiety podcast episode.

It explores what often lives underneath health anxiety, beyond symptoms and reassurance.

Many people aren’t only afraid of illness. They’re afraid of life without fear, because fear has slowly become part of their identity.

This episode looks at why anxiety can increase when things start to calm down, and who you are when fear is no longer in charge.

The Anxiety Guy

Health anxiety doesn’t ease by searching for more answers.

It eases when your nervous system learns, step by step, that it is safe again.

The Health Anxiety Program brings the teachings you hear in my videos and podcasts into a clear, supportive, step-by-step path.

It is not about forcing change. It is about gently changing how you respond to symptoms and fear.

This is where reassurance fades and trust returns.

Follow this program to end health anxiety for good:

The Anxiety Guy

Anxiety isn’t always visible.

What people often see is someone functioning, showing up, and doing their best.

What they don’t see is the constant internal effort it takes just to stay regulated, focused, and present.

Living this way can quietly drain your energy, especially when your nervous system has learned to stay alert for too long. There is nothing weak about this. It’s a sign of a body that adapted to protect you.

If this resonates, I’d love to hear from you.
Does anxiety show up for you more on the inside than the outside?
