Welcome to Plot Luck — where storytelling takes center stage, and everyone brings something to the table.
I’m Brian — a writer, story consultant, and studio insider with a background in development, production, and script doctoring. I’ve worked with over 600 writers across film, TV, and games, helping more than 30 get signed professionally.
Here, we cross mediums and genres to explore what makes stories work — from blockbuster movies and prestige TV to groundbreaking games and unforgettable anime. We break down why great stories land, how to fix the ones that don’t, and how you can use those same tools in your own creative life.
🎬 Whether you’re crafting your own story or just love pulling them apart, Plot Luck is your seat at the storytelling table. Subscribe to join the feast, stir the plot, and bring something to the story.

Plot Heads!!! Worldbuilding Month isn’t over yet.
I’ve got one more for you.
This week I’m building an entire world from scratch using the 5 Layer World Engine (first shared in my ATLA video), so you can see exactly how the framework turns into something usable.
That means no prebuilt lore or existing IP. Just the process from a fresh idea. Now we put it all together.
I also wanted to sincerely thank everyone who has joined this community. The way you’ve applied these tools, shared your worlds, and pushed the ideas further has been unbelievable and inspiring!
We will return to Worldbuilding in the future, but let’s close this chapter right!
As always, don’t forget to stir the plot!

Plot Heads — tomorrow we’re talking power/magic systems!
But not in the way you’ve probably seen before.
Instead of debating hard vs soft magic, we’re looking at how different power systems generate different kinds of stories.
Internal growth.
Inherited destiny.
Sacrificial power.
Strategic rule-based systems.
External sources of power.
If you’ve ever built a world and wondered “okay… but what’s the actual story here?” — this one’s going to click.
Thanks again for all your support! I appreciate every single one of you. 🙏

Plot Heads! 🫶 Worldbuilding Month is starting to wind down, but don’t worry! We’re absolutely coming back to it in the future.
For the next couple videos, we’re moving into the build phase. Taking all the ideas, frameworks, and concepts we’ve talked about and turning them into tools you can actually use.
📍 Building Locations That Don’t Feel Generic
We’re going to dig into how locations stop being “maps” and start becoming story engines. How geography, culture, pressure, and purpose turn a place into something that actively shapes character and conflict instead of just sitting in the background.
⚡ Power Systems That Actually Shape Story
Not just magic rules, but how different kinds of power systems create different kinds of stories. We’ll break down how power choices affect character arcs, themes, escalation, and the type of narrative you’re really building whether you realize it or not.
And after this build phase, we’ll be shifting focus for the next couple months into character creation and development. Heroes and villains. Protagonists and antagonists. What makes characters work, why some fall flat, and how character and story collide.
As always, thank you for being here, thinking deeply, and building alongside me. This community makes all of this worth it.
More very soon. 🔥

What's cooking, Plot Heads? Exciting update! We’re diving into Avatar this week.
Not just one. Two.
The blue aliens on Pandora and the guy with the blue arrow on his head.
As part of Worldbuilding Month, I’m breaking down two very different worldbuilding approaches. One video looks at Avatar: The Last Airbender and how its entire world and story are built from a clear, foundational core.
The other dives into James Cameron’s Avatar and how it introduces a complex world through action, danger, and character experience, without stopping the story to explain it.
If you’re a writer, filmmaker, or worldbuilder, these videos are about understanding how worlds are constructed and how story operates inside them.
Thanks, as always, for watching and being here!

📣 Plot Luck Update: Closing 2025 & What’s Coming Next 🔥
As we close out 2025, I wanted to share where Plot Luck is headed, because I’m honestly really excited about this next chapter.
To wrap up the year, I’ve got two long-form videos coming that get at the heart of what Plot Luck is about:
🔹 One dives into the Netflix / Warner Bros. consolidation conversation, what it really means for storytelling, and the new frontier for aspiring creatives.
🔹 The other breaks down the story and scene diagnostic system I use every day, my 7 Sacred Ingredients of Storytelling, the framework I use to evaluate why stories work, why scenes break, and how to fix them.
Alongside that, I’m rolling out short-form Pro Story Tips pulling specific, usable takeaways from some of the best stories across anime, movies, video games, and TV from 2025.
And then… we kick off 2026 with something new.
Starting in January, Plot Luck is moving into themed months, beginning with Worldbuilding Month.
That means we’ll be:
🔹 Studying how worlds are constructed
🔹 Breaking down systems, rules, cultures
🔹 Exploring IP through focused craft lenses
🔹 Bringing audience suggestions directly into the mix
This feels like a natural evolution of what Plot Luck has always been. Less chasing individual moments, more intentional exploration of how stories are built and why they resonate.
If there’s a 2025 story you’d love to see pulled apart for a takeaway, or a world you want us to study in January, drop it below.
Thank you for your support and for joining the storytelling table.
Let’s stir the plot together! 🔥

What’s cooking, my fellow Plot Heads? New video is about to drop!
I’ve missed you all the last couple of weeks. I’ve been dealing with some medical stuff and needed to step back and rest, but I’ve been thinking about this community a lot. Thank you to everyone who stuck around, watched older videos, or just stayed subbed while things were quiet. It genuinely means the world. 💛
Today I’m back with a new video all about something a ton of writers struggle with: actually starting.
If you’ve been stuck in your head, overthinking your first page, or waiting for the “perfect” moment to begin, this one’s for you.
In the video, I walk you through:
💎A simple “Page Zero” method to start writing without the pressure
💎Easy ways to trick your brain past perfectionism
💎A repeatable system to keep going after that first session
If you’ve been wanting to start your story but keep freezing up, I think this might help you finally get words on the page.
As always, thank you! And don't forget to stir the plot!

What’s cooking Plot Heads? I’ve been off YouTube the last couple weeks dealing with some medical things, but I’m finally getting back into the swing of things and planning a strong close to 2025.
Coming up we are going to look at:
• What mega mergers like Netflix buying WB mean for storytelling
• How to actually start writing your project and move it out of the idea phase
• Some of the top stories of 2025 across anime, video games, movies, and television and what we can learn from each
Thank you to everyone for the support and patience while I have been recovering. New videos are on the way.
Don’t forget to stir the plot!
