Welcome to our Channel/Vlog, Tuck-Away Pines Homestead!!!!
We are McKenzie and Cory, and we are a young couple who just moved from the loud and cramped city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to our 9 1/2 acre property in Northern Wisconsin. It has always been our dream to have our own homestead and be able to not only raise and grow our own food but also raise a beautiful and healthy family together too.
After working hard, we are able to have the opportunity to build our own official homestead!!
Our goal is to document our journey as new homesteaders! We hope to inspire others who want to do the same and to show the reality of starting up a homestead from scratch and living a more self-reliant lifestyle.
Come along and watch and learn with us while we document our journey and record our successes and failures.

Recovery Update:
It has been one month since our very unfortunate accident.
We are recovering well but still have plenty of therapy to accomplish. Everyday we have to drive past the scene and are constantly reminded at how blessed we are.
We are so very thankful to still be here and able to do what we are able to. We are blessed for our friends and family (home and at work) for being there for us and supportive through this time.
Thank you for everyone's patience and support!!

Tried my hand at making HOMEMADE PASTYIES!!!
I've only had the UP version of these and they are so delicious. I found a traditional Cornish recipe for the original version of this pie. And let me tell you it turned out so delicious. It is quite a process to make from scratch but it was TOTALLY worth every bit!
If you don't know what a Pasty (Pass-ty) is, it originated in England. It was a filling portable meal made for miners of the 19th century. It is generally made with a flaky dough crust and filled with beef(steak) and a variety of root veggies.
I will definitely be saving this recipe and making more again!

Taking a moment to really appreciate our hard working hens!
They really have nestled into our hearts and have definitely earned their keep here. I have been keeping a log of how many eggs we collect each day and I have only had one day where there weren't any eggs.
Even during these harsh cold winter months, someone is atleast laying one egg for the day. Speaking of harsh and cold, these ladies have been so strong enduring these extremely cold temperatures as of late. We recently had -20 degrees weather (Real feel was -40). We of course give them extra bedding and block the wind but even so, Wisconsin cold is more cold than normal cold, haha!
I'm just so thankful for our lovely ladies and all they do and provide for us. I absolutely love seeing them run to the run door to greet me as I see what color, shape and size variety eggs they have layed for me that day. I hope to endure many more winters with them ππ

Happy New Year friends and followers!
We have really enjoyed our little holiday break. We did intend to pick up filming again after the holidays but unfortunately we will have to extend our break.
Yesterday, Cory and I were in a roll over car accident where I was ejected from the vehicle. Road conditions were just too poor to have been out on the road. Cory has sustained a dislocated shoulder but I am recovering from 3 broken vertebrae. We are so thankful for the outcome and EVERYONE who responded and helped us both at the scene and the hospital. We are especially grateful for our loved ones who are here for us during our recovery!
I just ask everyone to be patient with us as we get back to our healthy selves. I have many videos planned and can't wait to bring everyone along for a new year of adventures and projects.
Stay safe and stay blessed π

Quality time with Carmella π
Today was the first day for the ladies to tread in the snow. Carmella stayed close to home and found herself tucked behind some bricks. As I grabbed her from her hiding spot, she fluttered up on my shoulder (probably for warmth). Couldn't help but capture the moment and let her cuddle for a bit βοΈπ€

It is finally that time of year!!!!
I want to wish all my brothers and sisters out there that patiently wait for rifle season every year, a safe and successful hunt this fall.
May the odds and the wind be in our favor this season and let us gather another year of hunting stories, memories and, of course, more importantly meat for the freezer. Be safe, know your target and what's beyond it, and stay orange, my friends 𧑠π¦

Happy 1st Birthday Waylon!! π πΎ
I can't say it enough, we are so blessed to have such a wonderful, loving, and goofy puppy. He has given us all a new spark and is the highlight of our day. He keeps great company and protection. He is the best little brother to our Bryck-man, keeping him in shape and company as well.
We celebrated his day by spending time running the trails on the property and taking him on his first adventure to the store to pick out his own toy and treats! He was so well behaved, too ( mom is so impressed π)
I look forward to the loving, fun filled chaos to come π
Happy Birthday to my baby boy πΎπ

When is the latest time of year that you've harvested from the garden?
Here on the Homestead, it is November
If you haven't seen our most recent video, October update part 2, you most definitely should! I mention how I am going to keep my root veggies in the ground until I absolutely need them.
Well, it is that tike, plus I don't want them to freeze in the ground. We are expected to have some really cold weather for the next few days.
I am absolutely blown away with how huge these carrots got! I love growing carrots because they don't take up a bunch of space, and you can literally forget about them (except for watering).

Things haven't really slowed down on the Homestead quite yet, so my part 2 for our October Update video is a little late. But stay tuned for the release of it in the next day or so!
The garden is looking so different lately it is quite bittersweet. It's sad to see all the beautiful plants go, but it will be a nice rest, when things actually do slow down, haha!
