This is not a print. This is Patan Patola, a mathematical marvel where every single warp (vertical) and weft (horizontal) thread is tie-dyed with divine precision before it is set on the loom.

It is a 'double ikat' weave so complex that a single error can blur the entire design, and a single saree can take a year to create. The story of this royal textile is one of a king’s obsession. In the 12th century, King Kumarpal of the Hindu Solanki dynasty was a devout Jain who wore new silk for his daily prayers. When he learned his silks were "impure," having been used first by the King of Jalna, he was deeply offended.

He invaded Jalna and brought 700 weaver families to Patan, making this intricate fabric a closely guarded emblem of royal status and sacred purity.
