I was commissioned to work on the theme of a song “O Homem do Leme” by the band Xutos e Pontapés.
I could do ceramics, drawing, painting, etc., whatever made sense to me.
After some reflection, I realized the exact place I wanted to paint - “Praia dos Barcos” on Baleal Island. I've lived in this area for three and a half years and it's the place where I've been going on vacation since I was a child.
As I was about 80/90 km from this place, I started painting from my imagination.
After a few months I had the opportunity to go to Baleal again. I was thinking of painting there for a few hours. I realized that I wouldn't have that kind of time to observe and create directly on the beach.
On the way to “Praia dos Barcos” I began to wonder if the place I had imagined would be as I wanted it to be, the sea clean with boats and the magnificent view of this place that is so special to me.
I had to be effective. My time to photograph would be the same as my mother dropping me off, driving around the island (about 5 minutes, depending on the traffic at the end of July) and returning.
So I did, and I longed to get back to my studio to paint.
The way I create is the same way I live my life: circumstances change and I adapt, I let go.
I made some collages from the photographs I took and went back to painting on canvas.
I'll let myself go until I think the painting is as it should be. Until it's time to hand it over and take its place.
In my process there is no formula. Things just go on and on.

Foi-me feito um trabalho de encomenda com o tema de uma música “O Homem do Leme” da banda Xutos e Pontapés.
Poderia fazer cerâmica, desenho, pintura, etc., aquilo que me fizesse sentido.
Após alguma reflexão percebi o lugar exacto que pretendia pintar- A “Praia dos Barcos” na Ilha do Baleal. Já vivi nesta zona 3 anos e meio e é o lugar onde desde criança vou passar férias.
Como estava a uns 80/90Km deste local comecei a pintar a partir da imaginação.
Após alguns meses tive a oportunidade de ir ao Baleal novamente. Ponderava pintar no lugar durante algumas horas. Percebi que, afinal não iria ter esse tempo para observar e criar directamente na praia.
A caminho da “Praia dos Barcos” começo a reflectir se o lugar que tinha imaginado estaria como desejava encontrá-lo, o mar limpo com barcos e a vista magnífica deste lugar que me é tão especial.
Teria de ser eficaz. O meu tempo para fotografar seria o mesmo de a minha mãe me deixar no lugar, dar a volta à Ilha com o carro (uns 5 minutos, dependendo do transito da época de fim de Julho) e voltar.
Assim consegui e ansiava voltar ao meu estúdio para pintar.
A forma como crio é a mesma que vivo a vida, as circunstâncias mudam e eu adapto-me, deixo me ir.
Fiz umas colagens a partir das fotografias que tirei e voltei a pintar na tela.
Deixar-me-ei levar até achar que o quadro está como deve estar. Até ser tempo de entregá-lo e ocupar o seu lugar.
No meu processo não existe uma fórmula. As coisas vão se dando umas às outras.
