🌻 “I Used to Shrink, But Now I Stand Tall”

I used to wish I were smaller.
Not just in size, but in sound… in presence.
At 5’5 (maybe 5’6 on a good day), I felt like a giant—
Big hands, big feet, big bones… and a voice that wasn’t soft or dainty.
I thought beauty was supposed to whisper,
And I didn’t know that sometimes beauty roars.

I didn’t feel seen.
Not by the boys.
Not by my friend who needed a purse-holder more than a person.
Not by the mirror.
Not by myself.

I faded into corners.
I held my tongue.
I let others speak and spent years listening,
Giving advice I never received back.
Pouring from an empty cup
Until I realized… I am not a garbage can.
I’m not your emotional dumpster.
I am not a shadow in someone else’s spotlight.

I had acne scars. Knock knees. A missing fingernail.
And still—I am beautiful.
I didn’t know it until God used His church in 2001 to say it out loud.
To show me I had always been.
Not because the world clapped for me—
But because Heaven called me good.

Now I set boundaries.
Now I guard my peace.
Now my phone doesn’t ring as much,
But I don’t mind the silence—it means my soul can finally breathe.

Because even when no one clapped,
Even when I was invisible,
God saw me.
And now, so do I.
