History whispers through the cursed and the forgotten.
Created by Jess (a historian) and Larry (a data-science researcher), we uncover the eerie tales that blur the line between folklore and fact.
Drawing from primary archives, academic sources, and forgotten folklore studies, we bring to life the dark stories that history left behind: haunting legends, cursed objects, and unsolved mysteries of centuries past.
Each creepy story is meticulously researched and retold with respect for both history and the scary lore that lingers within it.

King James V really said, “I’m a fairly chill ruler, unless your brother annoys me—then I’m authorized to use the 'incinerate' button.” 🤴🔥
In 1537, James V of Scotland decided that Janet Douglas (Lady Glamis) had to go. Was she a threat to the throne? A master criminal? Nope. James just had a massive, burning hatred for her brother, the Earl of Angus.
Since he couldn’t get his hands on the brother, he did what any "pretty good guy" would do: he accused Janet of witchcraft and trying to poison him, then had her burned at the stake while her young son was forced to watch.
I’m sorry, but if your reaction to a family grudge is “I guess I’ll just light the nearest female relative on fire,” the math isn’t mathing. 🧐
This isn’t just a red flag; it’s a 16th-century dumpster fire with a crown on top. James V didn't just hold a grudge; he built a bonfire out of it.
Save this to remind yourself that no matter how bad your family drama gets this weekend, at least you aren't a Douglas in the 1500s. 😉

Okay it's Sunday- so let's have some fun!! How about a little dark history trivia? 🤓
It’s February 1855, and you've just woken up in Devon, England, ready to complain about the freaking cold- again- only to find that a cloven-hoofed Olympic athlete has apparently spent the night laying down 100 miles of tracks in the snow. ❄️
These footprints didn’t just walk; they went over 14-foot walls and across rooftops in a perfectly straight line, as if physics was merely a suggestion.
But while the village was busy sharpening their pitchforks to 'handle' the intruder, the 'experts' of the day were having a mid-life crisis trying to explain it away.
Which of these was the most popular theory at the time? 🧐
A) An escaped kangaroo 🦘
B) The Devil himself 👹
C) An experimental balloon 🎈
D) A woodmouse 🐭
Drop your guess below!
PS- I'll comment later with the answer.

Me: 'I need to be more responsible with my spending.'
Gilles de Rais in the 1400s: 'I have successfully spent an entire kingdom’s fortune on alchemy, theatrical plays about myself, and trying to turn lead into gold. Time to call the Devil for a loan.' 💸
I wish I could dive knee-deep into the financial records of this dude- he's by far history's most terrifying noble. If you think your credit card statement is scary, wait until you hear how this guy managed his 'hobbies.' 📉🍷
Check out the full episode on how Gilles went from Joan of Arc's bestie and 15th century Kardashian to the world's first documented serial killer! 👹

If you wake up in a 10-foot-thick stone castle and see a beautiful, glowing boy standing by your bed, you have two options...
Option A: assume he's a friendly Victorian nightlight.
Option B: Pack your bags immediately because you might have just received a supernatural death sentence.
The Polite Ghost: In 1824, a Reverend staying at Corby Castle woke up to a "bright flame" in his room that turned into a beautiful boy with golden hair. The kid just stared at him with a "benevolent" expression and then glided into the chimney. The Reverend was so "nope" about the situation that he crashed his carriage into a fence while fleeing at breakfast.
The Toxic Ghost: But wait, it gets darker. Across the pond in Ireland, Captain Robert Stewart (later Lord Castlereagh) had a much weirder encounter. He woke up to a naked, glowing boy floating down his chimney. Yes, floating.
The local legend said that anyone who sees this "Radiant Boy" will rise to immense power and then die a violent death. Lord Castlereagh did exactly that-- he became one of the most powerful men in the British government before taking his own life.
Imagine a ghost giving you a promotion and a terminal diagnosis in the same visit. 💀
The Tragic Ghost: Finally, we have Chillingham Castle. Their "Blue Boy" was heard crying behind the walls of the Pink Bedroom for centuries. In the 1920s, they broke open a 10-foot-thick wall and found the skeleton of a child with blue fabric scraps and broken fingernails. He’d been bricked up, probably alive. (Medieval construction crews were truly on another level of unhinged.) 🛠️🦴
So, is the Radiant Boy a warning, a victim, or just a very luminous glow-up? We’re breaking down all three cases… including the "silver coin" trick to break the curse… in the full episode here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMgew...
PS- drop an emoji below as a reminder to NEVER stay in any room called the "Pink Bedroom" (esp in a castle). 🏰

Okay, I might seriously need a new therapist… the standard 17th-century potato blight just isn’t hitting the same anymore. 🥔
Traditional history is vital, and a 17th-century famine IS objectively a tragedy. But I think I’ve officially broken my own brain. 🤣
It’s reached a point where my personal brand of curiosity requires a side of "this shouldn't be physically possible" just to keep me awake.
If a disaster doesn’t involve a locked room mystery, a thrice-cursed heirloom, or a castle with a suspicious death count, my brain starts treating it like a very long, very depressing grocery receipt.
I didn’t choose to be a gothic historian’s fever dream on a caffeine bender; the archives did this to me. I still love a good textbook, but I live for the footnotes that make the hair on my arms stand up. 🕯️
Don't suffer through the 3:33 AM existential dread alone.
Comment below and jump down the rabbit hole with me. Misery loves company, but cursed history loves an audience. 🕰️🚶♀️

Happy Sunday, y'all! Let’s talk about the ultimate 'I should have taken a left at Albuquerque' moment. 🏰✨
In 1901, two academics (Moberly & Jourdain) went on a tour at Versailles and accidentally gate-crashed into the 18th century. They claimed the air turned 'heavy,' the people looked 'scary', and they even saw a very-much-deceased Marie Antoinette sketching in the garden.
Instead of admitting they were bad at maps, they wrote a book about it. Naturally, the neighbors had questions.
What's the most 'logical' explanation for their little trip? Guess below! 👇
A) They crashed a costume party 🎭
B) A "telepathic" time jump 🧠
C) They had too much wine 🍷
D) A shared hallucination 😵💫
Drop your guess below!
PS- I'll comment later with the answer.
