The Army's most famous K9 is collecting his DD-214 and officially retiring.

For years, Nick the Military Working Dog has graced millions of Department of War computer log-in screens wearing his signature protective eyewear.

Yesterday, the 2D Military Police Detachment at Fort Meade hosted Nick's retirement ceremony and presented him an Army Commendation Medal for his years of service as a patrol explosive detector dog.

Nick supported 58 U.S. Secret Service missions, worked 5,798 hours in his career, and also served during national events, including the Army's 250th Birthday celebration.
