For the last 3 months, I’ve been creating content. After spending years in the hospitality industry, I finally started doing what I truly enjoy, cooking, creating, and sharing it with the world.
It’s not as easy as it looks. What you see in 15 seconds often takes 2 hours behind the camera. The effort, the retakes, chasing the right angles, fixing the light, plating again… all with the hope that maybe one video will reach the right people.
And then there’s my mom, camera conscious, hesitant, yet still showing up to cook with me. We laughed, we got annoyed at each other, we disagreed… but those moments became the most special part of this journey.
Some days are exhausting. Some days feel overwhelming. But at the end of it all, it’s worth it.
This year, I got the courage to start. Maybe next year, I’ll get recognised for my work. Till then, I’ll keep going, creating, and living for the hope of it all. 🥂✨
Never thought sharing recipes would turn into this beautiful journey. It’s overwhelming, but cooking makes it all worth it, and I’m genuinely enjoying this phase of my life. 🤍
How did I develop interest in cooking? Seeing my father occassionally giving a tadka to leftover dal from lunch. He would do it for me and ask maa to make the roti crisp for me. That used to be the best dinner for me. I wonder when did he stop doing it.
Maa used to watch shows like Khana Khaja hosted by Sanjeev Kapoor. I grew up watching Sanjeev Kapoor and Tarla Dalal on TV and we had cookery books by Neeta Mehta, etc. I always loved those books over maths and science.
As a kid I was never stopped by my parents to enter the kitchen. For me cooking became a sign of validation, showing creativity and most importantly a sign of love. Even today I cook for people I would want to show affection for. Well Done Devrat is for not anyone but for myself. Lately I've realised life is very very unpredictable. Every video is a way of living the dream 10 year old Devrat saw of hosting a cookery show. Every video we upload I forward to my parents for letting me be and never stopping to do what I love.
Well Done Devrat
