Dr Karni Singh, also known as Maharaja Karni Singh, was a pioneering figure in Indian sport and a legend of shooting.
The first Indian to win a gold medal at the Asian Games, he combined royal lineage as the last Maharaja of Bikaner with an extraordinary sporting career. A 17-time national champion in clay pigeon trap and skeet, Dr Singh represented India with distinction at every level of international competition and became the first Indian shooter to participate in five Olympic Games (1960–1980).
In recognition of his historic contributions, he became the first shooter to be conferred the Arjuna Award in 1961. The Dr Karni Singh Shooting Ranges near the historic Tughlaqabad Fort in Delhi—venue of the 2026 Asian Shooting Championships—stand as a lasting tribute to his enduring legacy in Indian shooting sports.
India’s Jensi Kanabar clinched the U14 Women’s Singles title at the 2026 Australian Open Asia-Pacific on Friday.
Ranked World No. 293 in the ITF World Junior Rankings heading into the tournament, Kanabar showed remarkable resilience, winning 12 of her last 15 games and rallying from a set down to defeat home favourite Musemma Cilek in the final.
A standout performance on the international stage.

The WPL is now entering its fourth season, yet its venue strategy has moved from expansion to consolidation.
From one city (2023) to four cities (2025) and back to two cities (2026), the question is no longer logistical—it’s strategic.
Host cities shape fan bases, commercial value, and grassroots engagement.
Is centralisation limiting the league’s long-term growth potential?
