💵 Everyone talks about diversifying portfolios. Nobody talks about diversifying CURRENCIES.
Context: when I saw Warren Buffet sell his Berkshire stocks end of 2025 and the stock exchange told us that our Vanguard returns may drop to 2% returns, which is below inflation, my gut told me to be smart about diversifying.
Your USD/EUR/GBP are great. But if 100% of your wealth is denominated in Western currencies while you're investing in African growth... You're exposed to exchange rate risk that can eat 20-30% of your returns.
Smart diaspora money? They hold positions across Naira, Cedi, Shilling, Rand strategically. This is advanced-level diaspora wealth building.
Yes African currencies can be very volatile, trust me I know I live in Kinshasa. However, buying and holding goods or (cash flow generating) assets in other currencies that later on these goods can have value, could be a good play.
